MadameOvary · 27/02/2010 12:28

Oh how could I forget Ossau-Iraty? Yuuuuuum.

IwoulddoDrWho · 27/02/2010 13:11

What's up with Lancashire?

Thanks for introducing me to five counties - got this am and kids are loving it for lunch.

SkaterGrrrrl · 27/02/2010 14:44

Need t shirt saying "This pregnancy brought to you by Red Leicester".

tinksbabyis1 · 27/02/2010 15:52

that is a tricky one i luv chesse

strong mature cheddar
paramesan
grueyre
mozzerella

feralgirl · 27/02/2010 16:46

Comte
Gruyere
Parmesan
Cheshire
Yarg

No matter how hard I try, I just cannot make myself like blue cheese or camembert or brie. I feel as though I am missing out and, as a self-confessed foodie, this makes me

feralgirl · 27/02/2010 16:50

Ooh, a really nice mature gouda as well.

And feta.

And posh cheddar.

And the hard orange cheese I had in the South of France once. That was 'ansome.

And mozzarella.

And DS's full fat Philly, it's soooo much nicer than reduced fat.

Oh, forgot halloumi. My mum makes her own which is very exciting.

I love cheese; no wonder I'm such a porker!

SpawnChorus · 27/02/2010 17:11

As an aside, I notice that the header for this thread on discussions of the day is "As gouda as it gets."

AIBU to think that this pun only really works if you mispronounce gouda? i.e. goo-da (incorrect) rather than gow-da? Or if you want to be proper poncey Dutch ghow-da

Lotster · 27/02/2010 17:15

I once had a cheeseboard where one of the cheeses was a tiny blob on a miniature teaspoon. When I asked the waiter why the tiny portion, he looked smug and said "try eet.." (French). It literally blew the top of my head off. Wish I could remember what it was!

Anyone particular about certain biscuits for certain fromages? For me the best biccy for a blue cheese is a sweet one like the Hovis /digestivey tasting bisuit...

SpawnChorus · 27/02/2010 17:21

lotster: "It literally blew the top of my head off."

I'm pretty sure you could get litigious on his French derriere for that.

Totally agree with blue cheese + digestive combo.

MrsMatey · 27/02/2010 17:57

In no particular order - although I go through kilos of paremesan

  1. Camembert with truffle
  2. Parmesan
  3. Buche d'affinois
  4. Buffalo Mozzarella
  5. Mature Manchego
Lotster · 27/02/2010 18:34
Grin
doubleexpresso · 27/02/2010 18:48

Stilton.
Gouda.
Camembert - got to be runny.
Cheddar - strong enough to make your eyes water.
Boursin.

MrsMatey · 27/02/2010 18:52

Agree with a sweet biscuit for blue cheese or a mature cheddar - I like Duchy oat biscuits. But for most other cheeses we tend to stick with something with crunch and a sutle flavour like Carrs. Manchego needs membrillo & some crusty bread & butter.

fridascruffs · 27/02/2010 19:09

ticklemoor goat cheese
cornish yarg
tesco value medium cheddar is what i buy though. children bah humbug.

RedLentil · 27/02/2010 21:10

If any of you are holidaying around Cork, and trying out all the fantastic local cheeses, you absolutely have to try Baking Emporium seed bread cracker-type things. I don't know if they do postal orders, or even if they get sold further afield.

I could happily be their global brand ambassador. Perfect with Gubbeen, or, for Dorothea, smoked Gubbeen.

Fantastic for teething babies too ...

Greensleeves · 27/02/2010 21:12

Vignotte
Dolcelatte
a really good goat's cheese
stilton
caerphilly

Spacehoppa · 27/02/2010 21:12

We all like econo-ched
Although its rarely said
We also like the Roquefort
Which goes quite well on bread

mybabywakesupsinging · 27/02/2010 21:20

Roquefort. Don't care about alcohol when pregnant, but blue cheese...long for it...
Have trained the children from birth to eat mature cheddar.
Ds1 - favourite is camembert
Ds2 - favourite is manchego (but only gets it when we have the right visitors, costs a fortune).

mybabywakesupsinging · 27/02/2010 21:21

or I suppose from 6 months. Unless the flavour is in your milk?

Shodan · 27/02/2010 21:25

Extra strong cheddar

Stilton

Leerdammer

Spitfire (cheddar with chillis in)

Erm..... Brie. Or maybe Camembert. Ooh. Can't decide.

But any cheese is a winner. Am of the conviction that there are very few dishes which cannot be improved with a generous application of cheese.

madiba · 27/02/2010 22:02

old Amsterdam hmmm

catastrojb · 27/02/2010 22:07

definitely cambozola. DH was under strict instructions to bring some to the hospital after I had given birth to DD! It was my mother's day present last year.... Best on crusty bread or soreen malt loaf (really. try it!)

a creamy stilton.
dolcelatte
mature cheddar
not sure about the last, it depends on my mood. really really can't do goats cheese though - it tastes of, er, goat!

gorionine · 28/02/2010 08:17

Raclette
Tete de moine
Reblocho
Tilsit
Brie
Mature cheddar
camembert (DS3 call it camebeurk
vacherin Montdor (the smelliest one I have ever come across but tastes sooo good!

gorionine · 28/02/2010 08:18

That would be Reblochon!
