Boursin and prob Roule (both yummy) are 'industrial' too - it is a snooty french distinction tbh to do with cheeses truly originating from a region - 'fermier' cheese will be more expensive as it implies a more exclusive artisinal cheesemaking process, 'appellation controlle" (sp?) is also an important distinction in some cases.

I never gave up cheese in my pg. I think the risks are minimal and thus don't get why people do.

yee haa.....Woolworths has started selling Lancashire cheese in Cape Town.....my life is now perfect!

Whoamireally · 26/02/2010 20:15

There is a lot of cheese poncery creeping into this thread

stealthsquiggle · 26/02/2010 20:16

I am not a cheese person.

DH like Munster - and Pont l'Eveque. The DC love Comte.

Interesting that most of most people's lists are so mild that even as a non-cheese person I would eat them.

jujubean · 26/02/2010 20:25

Mmmmmm cheese, I'll eat any cheese apart from blue but my faves are afflicted with cheese poncery.

  1. Room temp brie that is runny
  2. buffalo mozzarella (when I was pg I wanted to scoff this whole in the cheese aisle at tescos, I restrained myself)
  3. Gorwydd Caerphilly
  4. Baked camenbert
  5. Comte

...sure I'm only allowed 5, I could go on. Cheese heaven is those super posh restaurants where they have cheese trolley and you can have a little bit of whatever you want, I end up with about 12 cheeses on my plate. Mmmmmmm

cafegirl · 26/02/2010 20:28

Mozarella
Feta
Boursin or other herby soft stuff
Parmesan
Crumbly Cheshire or Lancashire

All have to be served with olives or pickles or crusty bread. Have given up sweet stuff for Lent so lots of cheese is being eaten

Whoamireally · 26/02/2010 20:32

I wouldn't be suprised if some of these cheese names are just made up for no other reason than cheese poncery

It is hardly exotic, but I tried making my own cottage cheese once. Looked, smelt and tasted like baby sick. Is your least favourite cheese a whole another thread, because I bet cottage cheese would be right there at the bottom of most people's.

crankytwanky · 26/02/2010 20:32

Oh you bastards, I can't eat my favourite cheeses at the mo.

I don't think I could list them in order. I'd be worried about upsetting one of the others.

GothDetective · 26/02/2010 20:41

Bowland
Tomme
Cambozala
Goat's Chhese
Red Leicester

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/02/2010 20:43

Stilton
A good strong Cheddar
Bleu d'Avergne
Cantal
Goats cheese

HLaurens · 26/02/2010 20:55

Coeur de Lion La Buche Goat's Cheese
Buffalo mozzarella
Bavarian Blue/Cambozola
Quenby Hall stilton (my parents had this at Xmas)
Philadelphia (full fat of course)
Gorgonzola Dolce

You can't accuse me of cheese snobbery with Philadelphia on my list!

SuperBunny · 26/02/2010 20:59

A nice squidgy Brie
Good very mature cheddar
Crottin
Soft, ripe stilton
