I went through a shortlived phase of mixing dessicated coconut with butter/marg, sugar and food colouring, then squidging balls of it onto digestive biscuits. It was like a mania, I went through a whole packet of coconut in a week. The road-to-Damascus moment, halfway through a mouthful of gritty blue fat, will never leave me.

Cyb · 14/01/2010 13:32

i used raid the cupboard to eat these when I was really desperate for sweets but had no money

RolandButter · 14/01/2010 13:33

When I used to work in advertising I had the pleasure of working on the Princes spreads and pastes and the General Foods (Angel Delight) accounts.

Highlight of my life was visits to both factories.

Watching meat pastes being made is something I won't forget ...

I was also invited to the Princes sales conference, where the latest promotion was being launched to the sales force. Consumer offer was free pairs of American Tan tights, with gusset, being modelled by bevy of 'beauties' wearing only sweat shirts and said tights, for all sales repts to ogle at.

RolandButter · 14/01/2010 13:37

relevance of women in tights?

We weren't even poor.

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/01/2010 13:44

I have no idea why Princes spreads were linked with tights ...

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/01/2010 13:44

I am quaking with laughter at this "The road-to-Damascus moment, halfway through a mouthful of gritty blue fat, will never leave me. "

I went on an excercise kick when about 8 after watching Lizzie Webb on TVAM. Routine was to run round the kitchen as many times as I could. My reward was a spoonfull of sugar taken from sugar bowl after each 10 circuits.

Fuck me I was mad.

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/01/2010 13:45

at snazzy thread

Am off to read that for a bit.

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/01/2010 13:46

Fisrt of all lol at SNAZZIEST being in caps (you really do love that word).

Secondly what a bloody pity that all the original posts have gone.

SkipToMyLou · 14/01/2010 13:50

Iced Gems now taste yuk and cardboardy. Party rings are OK, but where are the coffee ones?? And I much preferred Smarties with all the fake colour/flavour, they were YUM.

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/01/2010 14:02

at that thread, it is so funny.

I remember sat there are work trying not to laugh too loudly.

Near enough exactly 2 years later I am still sat at work laughing at mn threads.

Is also very wierd to read old posts from 2 years ago, and remember the thoights I had then

wideratthehips · 14/01/2010 14:03

toast with ketchup...would have this after school

digestive biscuit with cream cheese and then strawberry jam on top

a good old crisp sandwich

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 14/01/2010 14:11

Oh yeah I used to make a 'pizza' with sliced bread, ketchup and a kraft cheese slice on it.

Sometimes I added a pineapple ring, and a sprinkling of oregano if I was making it for friends, to, y'know 'posh it up'

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 14/01/2010 14:12

Crisp sandwiches are god! Crusty bread roll, ready salted crisps and sliced spring onion with lots of butter- yums.
