Why don't UK people cook meals like this? Yum!

I am natively from Brazil living in London now, and I make hubby eggs in morning etc. We add what Uk people call "chip sticks" to our meals, makes it more exciting and delicious! He loves it but says he has never seen it before.

Any other Brazillians on here who can share similar?

I think it’s because we only eat proper shit if we are eating junk.
we wouldn’t mix eggs with junk.
it would be either or

Wolfwhistles · 12/10/2025 11:10

I’ve had this in Portugal! I was a bit confused at first but it did taste nice. I think Portuguese cookery is very influenced by Brazilian isn’t it?

AdaColeman · 12/10/2025 11:10

Fried egg and chips used to be a popular cheap meal here @JulyCompost, but it has gone out of fashion in recent years.

Do you have any other tips for high end, luxurious meals @JulyCompost, I'm all in favour of a bit of luxury!

Tigerbalmshark · 12/10/2025 11:12

Yes why oh why don’t people in Britain make fried eggs with crisps and ketchup for breakfast?

Egg and chips is a very traditional British meal, though usually for tea not breakfast as it is too much food for most people at 8am. Most people would try to add some vegetables somewhere though.

It is healthy because it's basically potatoes though

Deep fried and drenched in salt as well 🤣

KittyRannaldini · 12/10/2025 11:13

I love egg and chips. It's my favourite Can't Be Arsed dinner.
I put crispy fried onions on a lot of things.

HauntedHero · 12/10/2025 11:14

EmeraldRoulette · 12/10/2025 10:54

@JulyCompost do you realise that these are basically crisps?

I have no judgement, but they are just crisps.

Worse than crisps really, crisps are basically just fried potatoes. Potato chipsticks are reconstituted potato, much more processed

ymemanresu · 12/10/2025 11:15

Interesting, i had a lovely breakfast once in a hotel that was some kind of spicy omelette. Are you familiar with this?

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/10/2025 11:17

I've noticed those chipsticks are popular in Italy, Portugal and Spain as well, although I've always experienced them as an evening thing - nibbles to have with a nice beer or Aperol Spritz Grin.

You can get them in this country but they are less popular now than years ago. I get them at Christmas and they remind me so much of my Mum and Grandma [nostalgia emoji].

These are from a packet you can buy them quite cheap from aldi or lidls, but if i'm making a more luxurous high end meal as a weekend treat I'll use ones like this from marks and spencers

Ham, egg and chips is an elite lunch, but not crunchy crisps!

zingally · 12/10/2025 11:19

I've eaten chipsticks at parties in buffet selections... The worlds most boring crisp! Completely flavourless.

1/10. Maybe 2.

If you're trying to imply that the OP is making this up the links and posts from people who have had similar dishes in other countries would suggest not.

Anewuser · 12/10/2025 11:20

Thanks OP, this has made my morning.

Finally, an upmarket breakfast I can make.

All that salt and fat. Will taste ‘yummy’ though.

PollyBell · 12/10/2025 11:20

Why dont people from China make a dish from Mexico, why doesn't someone from Iceland make a dish from the Philippines, where would it end

Why on earth would someone from any country make every meal from every country in the world? Just because a person says they should

I don't get the point of this

Possibly the other way round, given the Portuguese colonised Brazil in 1500.

CuddlesKovinsky · 12/10/2025 11:22

An ale-house I used to frequent served popular sandwiches with chips on the side... then one day, they decided to change the chips for crisps... (same price, of course)...

TOTALLY different experience - no matter how much they tried to insist 'they ARE chips, they're potato chips', people got batey about it...

Maybe not exactly relevant to this discussion, just sharing my trauma...

That isn’t the implication. Obvo putting crisps on meals is a recognised way of adding crunch. The implication is that it’s a joke post after the subsequent posts from the op that it’s healthy and gourmet cuisine if the crisps are from M&S.

CremeBruhlee · 12/10/2025 11:23

I’ve never heard of these used with the crisp version but have seen them in Spain served freshly made and fried with eggs on top

beanbaggirs · 12/10/2025 11:24

Possibly because we have a better grasp of nutrition?

🤔

Viviennemary · 12/10/2025 11:25

It sounds like a batty idea and wouldn't appeal to me at all. But if you like it then why not.

I feel your pain. Two completely different things. I also like “game chips” which are often served as a side dish with game (obviously).

What's dickish about that, hun?

Those you didn’t lose at ‘yum’ you will have lost at ‘hubby’. Unless you are a chicken, you don’t ‘make’ eggs for breakfast, you cook them. And I question just how ‘exciting’ a plate of beige can be. But yes, textural contrast is generally acknowledged to be appetising.
Personally, I landmine my yoghurt.

Ffs. What a pile of guff.
