Food or otherwise, going on a 3 month economy drive but only want to buy things that are edible, good value.

I like the jarded anti pasti yum.

the chicken noodle soup with pasta is very lovely it taste like proper chicken stock. its in a large yellow tin. Want some now.

Veg is good as is mince - very cheap for the amount.

Salamis in dried form is good too

Anyone else get the feeling that jellyjelly likes the jared anti pasti, as well as the chicken noodle soup with pasta, veg, mince and dried salami?

Putting the stuff back into your trolley rather than packing at the checkout means everything moves faster - you don't have some eejit in front of you trying to stuff things into a bag. It's even faster over here in Germany - they're like super-robot scanning machines

Scootergrrrl · 13/01/2008 15:52

The best Lidl tip is to get some of those collapsible boxes all the camping people trave about and just unfold those into the bottom of your trolley for ease of packing

No - in Tesco or wherever, they have those long slopy bits where all the shopping piles up and you can pack it into your bag. They don't have those in Lidl so you end up with piles of stuff blocking the way of the super scanning shop assistant.

ruddynorah · 13/01/2008 16:48

you load up the conveyor belt as normal. then at the other end, after checkout person scans, you throw the things in your trolley, don't start faffing with bags etc. you pack bags/boxes etc afterwards, wheel your trolley away to do that. works well.

ruddynorah · 13/01/2008 16:49

and yes tear and share bread with custard. think brioche.

bossybritches · 13/01/2008 16:57

COD-Just throw everything into the trolley-wheel to car & bag it up at your leisure, with the reusable bags you have sitting there that you always forget to take with you at other shops!!

turquoise · 13/01/2008 17:08

God - I may have to lose my Lidl virginity on the basis of that alone. I love custard in any guise.

Am also drawn by the cheap stella.

I think Fio turned her children crimson with the washing powder though.

perpetualworrier · 13/01/2008 17:15

Shower gel 28p.

Breakfast cereals.

Jam. Theirs is comparable to the really expensice ranges in the other supermarkets imo.

good luck, cod. [serious] ([pmsl])

Don't forget to bray.

I went yesterday and got drawer dividers for my underwear drawer.

There was a rather peculiar yoga outfit. (no, I didn't buy it).

Mmm, mind you stock changes on a Monday and Thursday.

Please do come back and post details.

Aitch · 13/01/2008 20:34

oh and imho the milano salami tastes weird but the romano is perfectly nice.

Aitch · 13/01/2008 20:35

just buy gherkins, pastrami, spend what you've saved on some fab sourdough bread in a nice part of town and then have yourself a feast.
