You sound a very caring mum babyjj. Mine hated babyrice too so i would puree carrots or peas and add them to it to make them eat it, or mashed up bananas or cooked apples if they want it sweet.

If you think of it babys have up to 21 meals a week, so a couple with chips in it does them no harm. A huge bag of tesco value potatoes though go a long way if you bake them. We have 5 cildren and a bag lasts a good 2 weeks for us

i peel about 2/3, then put them in a saucepan with about quarter cup of water then slowly cook them for about 5 mins till you can mash them with a fork. If they are eating apples, not cooking ones, then i dont need to add any sugar/honey as they are sweet enough for a baby. Mixed with the baby rice this will last about 5 meals

You can cook apples inthe microwave but to be honest it's easier on the cooker ring.

Peel and chop the apples, put them in a saucepan with an inch of water, put the lid on and turn the heat down low.

Stir occasionally - they will eventually go soft

Blend some raisins or dat4es into the babyrice, that might just about make it edible. For porridge, there are lots of things you can add to make it different, blended up raisins, dates, apricots, pureed cooked fruit, a teeny bit of cinnamon or vanilla seeds, ateaspoon of jam.

Don't worry too much about the baby eating enough, he sounds like he does and anyway, until they are one, they will be getting all their nutritional requirements from milk.

Please please please don't give him any more asda value sausages though, feed the extra one to the dog and give the baby some fingerfood from lulumama's suggestions instead.

oh for goodness sake
wind your neck in and look at what i was suggesting please. Cooking apples sometimes need a little extra as can be sour and a tiny bit of honey to make them palatable wont do any harm, i'm not talking tablespoons, just maybe half a teaspoons blended in with 3 apples and baby rice

But honey can give babies botulism. It doesn't matter if its just a tiny amount.

I didn't know babies couldn't have honey and I'm ancient. How come toddlers can eat it but not babies?

Report
colditz · 06/01/2008 11:17

Honey is actually dangerous for babies under one as their gut cannot destroy the botulism causing spores. I would sooner use sugar, and I'm not a food nazi

Report
dooley1 · 06/01/2008 11:18

I think it is because they have't developed enough immune resistance if they do get botulism before one.
If you google honey and botulism and babies you get loads of info

anything with more than 0.5 g of sodium per 100g is very high in salt, so that means veggie ones too.

It's only recently they found out you're not supposed to babyjjbabay, so your mum probably was never told not to -I am at your health visitor though, she should have come to see you and told you all this, mine did even with my second baby when I already knew.

Yes, they are fine. Put them in the fridge to defrost and have them tomorrow or if they are small you could do them from frozen, wrapped in foil on a low heat in the over. Put them on at 160 (gas 4) for at least an hour, and cut into the fattest one to check it's cooked all the way through.

they say on the packet cook from frozen and they are only £1.20 a pack
