The most surprising food your dc's like...

dc has his fair share of food fussiness but also surprises me with some things I didn't expect a 2 year old to like e.g.:

  • smoked salmon (a boy of expensive tastes!)
  • ground pepper added to food
  • mustard
  • raw yellow, red peppers
  • boring dark green lettuce not just crunchy stuff

.....so, what are the most surprising things your dc's like to eat?

dd2 is 3 and she likes:

onions
extra strong mints
broccoli
carrots
sprouts (yuck!)

strange child... wonder who she belongs to

Ecmo · 28/09/2007 17:23

chilli
curry
and salad
not together but I suppose they'd eat it if it was

oh and DS2 6 likes mustard and those disgusting Yakult drinks erghhhh

OrmIrian · 28/09/2007 17:23

Moules mariniere. Actually moules just about anything.

Which I find odd as I'm not all that keen and have to eat them with my eyes closed.

Tottie32 · 28/09/2007 17:25

myy dd now 9 was the only child at nursery to ask for seconds of cabbage,

she loves all veg but hates peas

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2007 17:25

DS2 is the fussiest eater in our family (won't eat any fruit except for bananas or apple sauce with roast pork, but both of those under sufferance). However, he does like olives and anchovies!

Coolmama · 28/09/2007 17:25

DS is 2.7 months and loves -
olives
anchovy and broccoli pasta
taramasalata
garlic in everything
chicken curry
spicy calamari
sardines on toast
mustard mash
watercress soup

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2007 17:25

Oh and ds1 loves sprouts.

tjacksonpfc · 28/09/2007 17:26

my ds whos 2 in october was eating fresh sea cockles and crabsticks on holiday last week im sure thats not a normal diet for a 2 year old im sure.

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2007 17:26

And all of my children (even ds1 who does not like fish) adore taramasalata. Big disappointment all round today when it was sold out in the supermarket.

DaisyMOO · 28/09/2007 17:28

olives
gherkins
sprouts (as in they all adore them and ask for seconds)
swede

InMyHumbleOpinion · 28/09/2007 17:29

Ryvita

Twiglett · 28/09/2007 17:30

not surprised at any of these

DS not keen on anything potato .. including chips .. but stick mussels in garlic and white wine sauce in front of him .. or chilli con carne

Toothache · 28/09/2007 17:32

My 2 LOVE mackeral, cold, straight from the tin....
And Kippers.

Ds insists I leave the head on so he can see the eyes while he eats it. SICKO!!!

SPEW

Twiglett · 28/09/2007 17:34

ooo ds insists on heads on too toothy

pointydog · 28/09/2007 17:34

I think this is one of the most common threads I've seen in my one year as a munter.

It's that poorly contained glee at you rkids liking unusual things.

The ponce-o-meter goes into overdrive.

pointydog · 28/09/2007 17:35

These things are not surprising on mn.

If you want to surprise people, you need to say pot noodle or something.

fryalot · 28/09/2007 17:36

oi, pointydog - you callin' me a ponce?

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2007 17:36

What is eating you pointydog? Don't bother with the thread if it has been done too many times.

Twiglett · 28/09/2007 17:37

you sure you want to refer to yourself as a munter pointy? ... like really sure???

iota · 28/09/2007 17:38

Pointy - my kids like fruitshoots - highly surprising, as if I were a good mumsnetter they would never have had the opportunity to taste them

actually I've tasted them and they are truly gross, but then so are moules IMHO

DaisyABandyBoobToo · 28/09/2007 17:42

ormirian...my DS loves mussels as well, and squid, in fact anything seafoody or fishy.

I've been around for nearly two years and I've not seen this subject before

Toothache · 28/09/2007 17:43

I've been on MN for 5 years.... wtf is a Munter??????????

Twiglett · 28/09/2007 17:45

its slang for a really really ugly woman .. step up from minger

fryalot · 28/09/2007 17:46

a step up as in less ugly, or a step up as in more ugly?

OrmIrian · 28/09/2007 17:46

Ah you see daisy my kids don't eat anything else fish-related unless it's in batter so the mussels thing is really really weird
