Who wants to enter here please. This will be fab. Now we have to find some judges. I think we should put thread in chat and ask someone to judge based on their credentials Obviously they will be only looking at a pic not tasting. We need rules as well??? Good idea or not.

Aow poo! I wish I'd spotted this thread earlier this week - I baked a couple of devil's cakes for the schhol fair last night. But I put cherries in the mix and baked them in square tins, so they won't do for the comp (even if I hadn't already handed them over). But, if I do say so myself, they looked goooooood...even, golden, smooth and lovely. And what's more, the bit of extra batter that I baked in a cupcase was deee-lish.

Ah well.

candles, you're not fixated enoughyet - some of us have made several attempts, so feel free to make more cake & show us your pics

Tempting...I'm out of caster sugar and medium eggs, though, must find a moment to get to the shops.

kickassangel · 15/06/2007 12:22

my one that got broken & eaten was actually pretty goo - no zittage or lippage, risen from approx 4 mm of mix to 2 cm of cake and very light & buttery tasting. even rise - no doming & cracking. some of the 'crust' at the bottom stuck to the lining paper, but no grid marks from the cooling rack.

Then the cat ate it!! still very and and and about that - was planning to bring it to work today.

just to clarify - i ate some of the half that broke NOT the half that the cat started eating last night.

lapin, i fear you've made a mistake by posting so early - now you have ruined the stealth tactics required for this comp - should have consulted anchovy about best time to post - early enough to brag (as you duly should, looks yummy) but too late for others to outdo you!
dying for a cup of tea now after seeing those pics.

kickassangel · 15/06/2007 12:25

Lapin, I love your photos. dd1 is shouting from her bed 'mummy be quiet, stop laughing, I'm trying to go to sleeeeeeeep'.

Not that your cake is amusing, Oh no. looks bloody ace, look at the rise. all my attempts so far look like frickin frisbees compared with everyone elses.

And hey...there are no bloody points for gorgeous looking kids eating cake. That is right out.

Grooveisintheheart · 15/06/2007 12:52

Groove, I think your school fete cake looks fine, the bottom layer is a bit thin, but the top one looks yummy.

lapins uber deep lining paper will sort out the problem of thin tins.

Grooveisintheheart · 15/06/2007 13:29

i couldnt find my roll of paper lol

the plate is very concaved, but the bottom is thinner and sunk in the middle slightly

will start wotk on comp cake tomorrow eveningm, bwhahahaaaa!
