Breakfast ideas for 2 year old - what is the least bad cereal after weetabix

Im sure this has been asked before but would be grateful to hear some current suggestions.

My ds 2 normally has weetabix then toast or fruit but I and him are getting a bit bored. At the weekend I do things like porridge, pancakes etc but weekdays are very rushed getting ready for nursery and work - we get up at the last minute in this house - so any ideas for anything quick and easy?

What is the next least bad breakfast cereal after weetabix and porridge? Are cheerios in any way healthy?

frosted lucky charms?
harvest crunch?

NotanOtter · 25/04/2007 23:03

golden grahams! (wtf?)

SlightlyMadSecret · 25/04/2007 23:04

Kelloggs Frosties (37.00 0.60 0.10 1.15) (red, green green, amber)

Jordans Natural Muesli (15.40 4.60 0.80 Trace) (red, amber, green, green)

Lots of the muselies have almost as much sugar. The swiss muselis are in general better (15-25g sugar compared to 25-36g). The Basics ones are better still. Sainsburies Basics is best I think.

Where do you shop cos that makes a big difference for most of these.

Shreddies have 15.5g sugar per 100g - which has just pushed into teh red (15g seems to be cut-off) - otherwise green/amber.

Nestle golden grahams (31.80 3.00 1.00 2.50) r, g, g, r)#

Kelloggs Fruit 'n' Fibre (25.00 6.00 3.50 1.50) r, a, a, r. All other brands amber on salt.

SlightlyMadSecret · 25/04/2007 23:32

I will stress that the report is dated July 2006...

NotanOtter · 25/04/2007 23:45

lol ...really?!

SlightlyMadSecret · 25/04/2007 23:50

Yes....

Sometimes I used to dunk nice biscuits in orange squash too.

Even now I can be partial to the occasional dunking of Jaffa cakes (still whole packet as a snake type 'meal'). I don't even like coffe to drink - so I tip half a cup down the sink when I have finished.

NotanOtter · 25/04/2007 23:53

fab!

maximummummy · 25/04/2007 23:55

i read that report about how bad cereals were

so we gave up sugar puffs

i bought morrisons plain puffed wheat

ds 2.4 yrs spat across table and said they were pooey

made him porrige at the w/end with apple juice instead of milk (he asked me to buy it)

spat it out it was pooey

he just eats weetabix and toast with shhhhhhhhh nutella and loads of fruit

i thought the porrige was pooey too and the puffed wheat was like cardboard

maximummummy · 25/04/2007 23:56

think i'll start giving him pasty&chips for breakfast tomorrow

best cereal is wholemeal rice puffs from health shop totally 100 % wholemeal nothing else in at all, maybe you can add plain white yoghurt or fruit pieces you can get it at holland barret or tesco does a brand but always check label, careful for maltose fructose etc all types of sugars it must say 100 % wholemeal then a full stop.

lonewolf · 26/04/2007 00:01

porridge oats also excellent for their wee bodies. - you can add fruit pieces yoghurt or vanilla pods inside for natural sweeetness without crazy effects of sugars. or maybe honey.
