Breakfast ideas for 2 year old - what is the least bad cereal after weetabix

jdd0709 · 25/04/2007 21:32

Im sure this has been asked before but would be grateful to hear some current suggestions.

My ds 2 normally has weetabix then toast or fruit but I and him are getting a bit bored. At the weekend I do things like porridge, pancakes etc but weekdays are very rushed getting ready for nursery and work - we get up at the last minute in this house - so any ideas for anything quick and easy?

What is the next least bad breakfast cereal after weetabix and porridge? Are cheerios in any way healthy?

maximummummy · 26/04/2007 00:25

readibrek

lonewolf · 26/04/2007 00:27

god i had worse when i was a child and im still here, but our parents were not educated enough about damage on bodies by certain foods, however aalso we focus sometimes too much on all this new found knowledge that we pollute our minds and forget to enjoy life and simple pleasures - bet you all remember your first sweet that burst of sugar on your taste buds then the fizzy sweets that was a game of exploration wow sherbet!!!

brimfull · 26/04/2007 00:29

I think I was weaned and brought up on sugar.

Nemo2007 · 26/04/2007 09:25

how can I find out how kellogs multigrain cereal rates??

rebelmum1 · 26/04/2007 09:34

I'd go for ready brek, muesli or just a yoghurt, there's a health food option from health food shops for museli called familia or something like that.

GameGirly · 26/04/2007 09:44

I agree, lonewolf. I ate utter crap for breakfast as a child and I'm not overweight, don't have a single filling and have no health problems whatsoever. My DDs have a variety and usually choose something different every day. This morning, DD1 had porridge made with milk and a sprinkling of sugar, DD2 had a mixture of Frosties and Cheerios. Porridge doesn't take a minute to make in the microwave. A couple of times a week they have a poached egg with a slice of smoked salmon and seedy toast. They are good, reliable teeth-brushers and breakfast is probably their most "junkie" meal of the day, so I don't worry too much. Most cereals are fortified so I justify it by thinking they're getting a few extra vitamins. They eat pretty well most of the time.

jdd0709 · 26/04/2007 10:20

would anyone be able to send me that which report? julietmcmullenatgooglemail.com.

thanks for all your help and ideas.

Porridge is great I know so we do have it at the weekends the problem is ds is too impatient to let it cool down and either has a paddy waiting for it or one if it is too hot. Couldn't face it during the week on a tight schedule.

PetronellaPinkPants · 26/04/2007 14:21

and malty so sweet

GameGirly · 26/04/2007 14:24

JJD, I hadn't thought about the porridge taking time to cool. I usually pour it into a cold bowl, but it still takes a while and DD2 won't eat it until it is practically cold. So you're right, it does take time. I still make it, though, but I end up shouting at everyone because they've taken too long to eat breakfast and I'll be late for work (again!).

SlightlyMadSecret · 26/04/2007 14:25

I make porridge with 2/3 of the milk, boil it in the microwave thoroughtly, and then add the remaining 1/3 of hte milk cold so quickening the coolong time.

SlightlyMadSecret · 26/04/2007 14:29
