can we have a thread where we recommend recipes that we often re-visit?

You don't have to go to the trouble of copying and pasting or describing it all, but just recommend the recipe and the book and why it works for you/your family? Everyone else can google the links.

As an example, for me it would be the minestrone from Nigella's How To Eat. I've made it so often now that I don't really need to look at the book, but I love it because it is quirky (no garlic, no tomatoes - both of which I love but this recipe just totally works without either) and one way to get the children to eat dark greens. And also because it is lush and keeps well and can be a lunch for friends, or a proper main course dinner for family.

I want to expand my repertoire of fail-safe day to day stuff like this! Anyone want to contribute?

Have pinned the pinnable ones (some just won't pin grrr) to the Marvellous MN Recipes board on my Pinterest Shona Spurtle for anyone who is interested. I've seen some of you there already , and followed you too.

Will keep my eye on the thread and keep adding them and if I find links to some of the others will pin them too.

We had BBC Good Food Chicken and Chorizo again tonight.

Jamies chilli
Nigellas meatballs
Lots of Delia recipes - butternut squash and sweetcorn soup is gorgeous.

A slow cooker sausage and potato 'thing'.

Fry off sausages and set aside; fry a chopped onion and chopped smoked streaky bacon in the same pan. Slice 4 large potatoes thinly; lay half the potato slices in the bottom of the slow cooker then layer the onion and bacon mix on top followed by the remainder of the potato slices. Season with salt and pepper then pour over approx. 300ml vegetable stock. Rest the sausages on the top of the potatoes, cover and cook for 4 hours on high.

I generally use Swiss bullion for the stock for extra flavour. The originally recipe (from a slow cooker cookbook) includes a couple of cloves of garlic fried off with the onion mix and some dried sage is optional as well, but we prefer it without.

Delia's chocolate bread and butter pudding... You need to make it the day before so only needs throwing in the oven on the day.

Although I cook it for less time and use 1.5 x the sauce quantity as we like it slightly gooey!

Easiest, tastiest meal ever. Official! Roasted salmon with green beans, anchovies and cherry tomatoes.

Heat the oven to REALLY HOT - think 210 for a fan oven.

Open a tin/small jar of anchovies in olive oil, and pour a bit of the oil into a large roasting tray. Heat in the oven briefly.

Place salmon or trout fillets (either skinless or skin side down) in the middle of the hot tray. Season. Roast for 10 minutes.

Remove tray from the oven. Pour the anchovies and any remaining oil around the salmon. Add the green beans and tomatoes and toss them around in the anchovies. Roast it all for a further 4 minutes. Stir again, then roast for 4 more.

So, the whole thing takes 18 minutes. No saucepans, no mess. And even my youngest eats every scrap. Grin

bookmarking. Looks great, I am needing some inspiration.

PollyPerseid · 30/01/2016 23:10

Brillo, I'm here... Shona Spurtle

Oh another brilliant recipe - failsafe and ideal for bake sales and taking to work birthday bashes is this Fay Ripley one. I add the juice of the oranges to the chocolate icing and the zest into the cake and it tastes just like a Terry's Chocolate Orange.

Keep them coming and I'll keep pinning!

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/01/2016 23:25

Got you.
I'll do some pinning tomorrow Grin

Any excuse to fanny about on Pinterest and I'm on it. Grin

Thanks to whoever posted the Naughty Chocolate Fudge Cake as I made it today with DS and it is indeed lovely and very easy. Next time we are going to try it with a ganache.

AvaLeStrange · 31/01/2016 00:20

Naughty fudge cake is my DDs favourite recipe!

There's also a great squidgy chocolate torte recipe on BBC good food, and a marmalade & marscapone ice cream which goes with really well. I make it with lime marmalade for a bit of a retro chocolate lime vibe.

chicaguapa · 31/01/2016 09:00

I saw something upthread about where/ how to save recipes. I save all my recipes in Pepperplate and have used it for a few years now.

You can import recipes from a lot of the American food sites (not UK ones though I've asked them if they could at least add BBC Good Food but they said no Hmm) or you can copy and paste to add manually.

It also has a planner and it syncs across devices so DH has access to the planner on his tablet for when it's his turn to cook. I use it loads and wouldn't be without it.

Oh my god! I forgot to post the grasshopper squares recipe. They are like After Eight brownies.

PurpleDaisies · 31/01/2016 10:13

I've done those flowers. They are super delicious and always go down a storm at bake sales. Might make some this afternoon!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 31/01/2016 10:37

Jamie's pannetone bread and butter pudding. You imagine it's going to be stodgy but it really soufflés up, a hit at Xmas!

Glamorousglitter · 31/01/2016 10:38

www.bordbia.ie/consumer/recipes/beef/pages/potroast.aspx

Had forgotten about this, it a really easy yummy for a Sunday roast, I do it in the slow cooker and at the end I add cream to the juices/ tomato mixture sometimes makes it fabulous! Plus it s in the slow cooker so Bung it on and don't think about it for 6 hours ! Easy.

BeccaMumsnet · 31/01/2016 12:43

Hi all - looks like this one's still in Chat. We'll pop it over to Food/Recipes now. Thanks for flagging - it's such a great thread Grin

werewolfinladderedtights · 31/01/2016 20:27

Hairy Bikers Chilli. I don't put the wine in, and add a teaspoon of cinnamon. The whole family love it.
Also BBC good food recipe beef in caramelised onions. A lovely winter dish.

SlinkyVagabond · 31/01/2016 21:54

DCs favourite Spring pasta dish. Boil pasta, cook asparagus lightly and chop into inch long bits. Get some hot smoked salmon, the chunky kind and mix into hot pasta with asparagus, squeeze lemon juice over and pour in single cream. Black pepper to serve.

saltedcaramelhotchoc · 01/02/2016 08:05

This might be my favourite thread, ever!

I will go for Jamie's fish tray bake - recipe is here (not my blog!)
quitesimplymum.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/jamies-fish-tray-bake.html?m=1

Nigella's chicken and sausage bake
www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/nigella-lawson/one-pan-sage-and-onion-chicken-and-sausage-recipe.html
I would also recommend her veggie chilli.

Rachel Allen's beef enchiladas are easy and I've made them a lot.

MitzyLeFrouf · 01/02/2016 11:45

FlowersAndShit those mint brownies look shamazing!

misscph1973 · 01/02/2016 13:13

Oh, I am so cooking lots of new stuff for weeks now!

This minced lamb curry is really easy to make, real comfort food and never fails:

All of the recipes on MyHeartBeets that I have tried are excellent.
