can we have a thread where we recommend recipes that we often re-visit?

You don't have to go to the trouble of copying and pasting or describing it all, but just recommend the recipe and the book and why it works for you/your family? Everyone else can google the links.

As an example, for me it would be the minestrone from Nigella's How To Eat. I've made it so often now that I don't really need to look at the book, but I love it because it is quirky (no garlic, no tomatoes - both of which I love but this recipe just totally works without either) and one way to get the children to eat dark greens. And also because it is lush and keeps well and can be a lunch for friends, or a proper main course dinner for family.

I want to expand my repertoire of fail-safe day to day stuff like this! Anyone want to contribute?

Loving this thread. I must try the JO pasta recipe.

My favourites are Gordon ramsay's Malaysian chicken curry, nigella's ham in cherry Coke, and pomegranate slow cooked lamb.

Pigeonpost · 14/02/2016 11:50

Without wishing to sound like a total suck-up, my kids' absolute favourite meal is the Cowgirl Stew from the MN Top Bananas cookbook.

And we also have this River Cafe Penne with slow cooked sausage sauce often too.

We do eat things other than sausages though... Off to find the Pinterest board and plan some meals now!

I am now going to be wasting the rest of the day on Shona's Pinterest boards!Grin

We've recently had a run of a meatloaf from BBC Good Food that has lardons and onion marmalade in it, and the sauce is passata with a bit more onion marmalade and some basil. Everybody wolfs it down.

Jo Pratt's Madhouse Cookbook recommended on earlier page is £3 from The Book People. Gets good reviews there too.

Looking forward to trying most of the recipes and it's lovely that they're all on Pinterest now Grin

PollyPerseid · 18/02/2016 21:37

Pigeon thanks for those, I've just added them. Had forgotten to come back and see if there were any more recipes. Grin

Really pleased the Pinterest board has been useful - thanks for all the lovely repins and follows too! Flowers Cake Wine

I didn't cotton on to the MN Top Bananas book - might have to treat myself.

BagelGoesWalking · 19/02/2016 19:45

Pinterest board is fantastic! Thanks so much for doing it. Already made two veggie dishes from it to go with other things as DD has a veggie friend over tonight (and I wanted more low cal). Thanks!

PollyPerseid · 20/02/2016 18:01

Forgot to say Flowers Cake Wine to bibbitybobbityyhat who started the whole thread, without whom there would be no Pinterest board!

Suspect you're a Bowie fan like me Smile

I'm making the BBC Good Food Chicken and Chorizo Jambalaya tonight, it's so easy because I'm a lazy cook and delicious.

Pantsalive · 26/02/2016 10:45

PollyPerseid Thanks for the pinterest board. I just came back to the thread to think about food for tonight but it's great that all the suggestions are not going to disappear any time soon.

Much appreciated!

Excellent thread! Making the chicken and lemon dish tomorrow..

PalePolkaDot · 15/03/2016 08:12

Chicken pie from Jamie's 30minute meals. I use whole grain mustard instead of english and use less chicken more veg to bulk it out. I also make the filling and serve it with rice or mash instead of turning it into a pie. The DC eat loads of it - veg and all.

Lentil Soup

Had to find this thread again to post that soup recipe.

I know there's 11736362 lentil soup recipes but that one's everyone here's favourite by far.

Need to have another look over this thread for ideas.

Stuart o'keede buttermilk fried chicken
Simon Hopkinson piedmontese peppers
Lorraine pascale cabernet prawn linguine and her paella. Her teriyaki recipe is gorgeous too.
Gary Rhodes lancashire hot pot.
James Martin chicken chasseur from home comforts

I'm reviving this thread to add this old favourite which Dh and I have always enjoyed and now that the children will eat chick peas and spinach it has become something I'll make for all four of us:

Slice a cooking chorizo ring into chunky slices and gently dry fry (or add a tiny amount of olive oil) in a casserole dish like a le creuset or similar. Get the chorizo slightly brown on each side and ooozing oil. Remove chorizo and set aside. Saute a finely chopped white onion, a sliced green pepper and some garlic - not masses of garlic, maybe just one large clove - in the chorizo oil in the casserole. Put the lid on and turn the heat down low and give it quite a long time so the vegetables get very soft (10 mins). Add a whole tin of chopped tomatoes and whole tin of rinsed chick peas, 3 or 4 bayleaves if you have them, pinch of sugar, seasoning. Return the chorizo to the pan. Put the lid on and simmer gently for 30 to 45 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, put a pack of washed spinach on top of the stew and let it wilt then stir in. Serve with rice (my favourite), couscous or crusty bread. A grating of parmesan goes nicely.

Some kind soul linked to this thread on another one and I just wanted to say THANK YOU!

I made the Hairy Bikers Spanish chicken mentioned above last night and it was bloody amazing! Having it again tonight and probably once a week forever...

Numberonecook · 27/09/2017 15:18

I used to work for a organisation linked to jamie Oliver and my favourite recipe to make at home was his salmon tikka. I cheat and make with a pataks paste (sorry Jamie) and the kids love it!! I don't know which book it's in but it's basically coating the salmon in the paste and shallow frying. Beautiful

EleanorFoodie · 28/09/2017 14:59

I have a recipe book called Made in India by Meera Sodha. I have never cooked so many recipes from one cook book, her recipes are tasty and so easy. Most of her recipes are about 4 steps and she always recommends what to serve with them.

I have bought this book a number of times for birthday presents, I honestly can't recommend this book enough.
