can we have a thread where we recommend recipes that we often re-visit?

You don't have to go to the trouble of copying and pasting or describing it all, but just recommend the recipe and the book and why it works for you/your family? Everyone else can google the links.

As an example, for me it would be the minestrone from Nigella's How To Eat. I've made it so often now that I don't really need to look at the book, but I love it because it is quirky (no garlic, no tomatoes - both of which I love but this recipe just totally works without either) and one way to get the children to eat dark greens. And also because it is lush and keeps well and can be a lunch for friends, or a proper main course dinner for family.

I want to expand my repertoire of fail-safe day to day stuff like this! Anyone want to contribute?

The BBC Good Food website has the best lasagna recipe I've found. It takes a fair bit of prep but it really is delicious - I make it the day before, it tastes even better reheated.

Hairy Bikers Chicken Jalfrezi. Indeed, their curry book is excellent and I've cooked many things from it but this is a favourite and very easy.

BestIsWest · 28/01/2016 06:10

Also the vegetable soup from Piri Piri Starfish. It's just potatoes, carrots and kale but delicious.

OvO · 28/01/2016 06:32

Chicken Satay.

It's a recipe from a food blog and its amazing. I make a vat of the sauce and dip anything and everything into it as its so good. Everyone eats it and wants more, no matter how much I make.

I can really recommend the whole blog as I've tried a lot of her recipes and none have failed yet.

Excellent idea for a thread. I make this a lot - even my 4 year old adores it

Baked gnocchi with bacon, tomato and mozzarella.

I don't make this as often as I would like as its eleventy million calories. It's so filling and perfect comfort food. Me and my 11 year old eat our own body weights in it. One of our favourites.

Blueberry234 · 28/01/2016 06:44

Blatant and shameless place marking, will post recipes later I promise!

BikeRunSki · 28/01/2016 07:23

Toad in the Hole

Braise 8 sausages
Make a batter of 4 eggs, 4fl Oz milk, 8 Oz flour, teaspoon baking powder.
Put sausages in a large dish, pour on batter.
Bake at 180 for 40 mins.

We have this after Saturday morning swimming lessons quite often. Can prepare beforehand and leave in oven with timer on. We usually have it with green cabbage or curly kale and gravy. Works well too because I do a little veggie one for me at the same time for no extra effort.

Fixinggood · 28/01/2016 07:27

Adding this and place marking so I can look through later, I'm always looking for good recommendations.

chicken and chorizo jambalaya

For quick after work comfort food love Nigella Express chilli. Also old Jamie salmon recipes - one tray baked with green beans, tomatoes, olives, anchovies. The other one is salmon wrapped in prosciutto served with lentils, herbs and spinach. Been cooking these on and off or variations of them for years.

For family dinner 'healthier' lasagne - Simon Rimmer recipe with cottage cheese rather than cheese sauce. Always goes down well and quicker too than doing cheese sauce.

A favourite cake esp in summer is bbcgoodfood raspberry and amaretti cake - lovely recipe.

kiwiscantfly · 28/01/2016 07:39

I love Jamie's pizza sauce and dough from his Jamie at Home book, it makes homemade pizzas awesome!

Jamie Olivers Sausage Bake (made with a mass of cherry toms and balsamic vinegar)

"Mayflower" Curry (the powdered stuff from B&Ms) with chicken and egg friend rice

Amazing thread, and must be preserved.

One I keep going back to is Vicky Bhogal's prawn and cashew rice. So easy! It tastes fantastic if you follow the recipe to the letter, but you can also adapt the basic principle (all ingredients gently fried in one pan, add rice and water then cover to steam) with almost anything. It has been a quick and easy store-cupboard lifesaver on so many occasions:

Ooh, mostly a place mark as I cant find how to watch a thread on the mobile site but nigellas puttanesca is tasty quick and easy

My go to cookbooks are ainsley harriots meals in minutes- I can actually make them in around the time he quotes rather than having to double timings like certain chefs!

Blueberry234 · 28/01/2016 08:14

Oh yes and nigella marmite spaghetti

Stellar67 · 28/01/2016 09:33

Wow, place marking while salivating.

Gazelda · 28/01/2016 09:35

Oh goodness! I'm going to cook my way through this thread, might take me a while!

In one of the hairy dieter books a recipe for stuffed chicken - stuffed with courgette, sun dry tomatoes, and cheese. It is so good. And quick to do. Oh and their enchiladas again in one of the hairy dieter books we love them in this house.

In fact most of either of their dieter books get revisited again and again.

LovelyFriend · 28/01/2016 10:28

there is a lot of love for the Hairy Bikers diet recipes on here.
