can we have a thread where we recommend recipes that we often re-visit?

You don't have to go to the trouble of copying and pasting or describing it all, but just recommend the recipe and the book and why it works for you/your family? Everyone else can google the links.

As an example, for me it would be the minestrone from Nigella's How To Eat. I've made it so often now that I don't really need to look at the book, but I love it because it is quirky (no garlic, no tomatoes - both of which I love but this recipe just totally works without either) and one way to get the children to eat dark greens. And also because it is lush and keeps well and can be a lunch for friends, or a proper main course dinner for family.

I want to expand my repertoire of fail-safe day to day stuff like this! Anyone want to contribute?

The very best lasagne I have tried, & the one I now do all the time, is the Gino Di Campo version. I leave out the courgettes though as none of us like them.

James Martin Steak & Ale pie.

This is one of the best comfort foods and uses mainly store cupboard ingredients. Lamb with Orzo pasta. Completely delicious.

For a very quick supper we have linguine puttanesca (sp).

2 or 3 anchovies fried (it's just for the salty flavour they go to nothing, not fishy but a depth to the seasoning).
Little garlic and half a finely chopped onion.
A dozen baby plum tomatoes halved (leave the skins on).
Couple of tablespoons of capers.
Pepper to taste (and we add a few chilli flakes).
Stir through cooked linguine and add a little shaved Parmesan.
Delicious meal and ready in way under twenty minutes (real minutes not Jamie Oliver minutes).

Puttanesca is a favourite lob together dinner here, I always have the bits for it in, keep a couple of plain pizza bases in the freezer, and it makes pizza too.

Just wanted to say thank you to the pp who recommended the Jamie Oliver pregnancy pasta recipe on this thread. I just made it after seeing it on here this morning and flipping heck it is LUSH! DP just inhaled his and said I'm a fab cook and it might be his new favourite dinner - it was so quick and easy to make so a definite win! Grin

Dan Lepard's milk bread.
In fact, lots of The Guardian Food recipes

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2016 21:34

That milk bread is the best thing I've ever baked. Best eaten with homemade lemon curd.

Delicious nourishing comfort food

Nigel slater's Moroccan style chicken casserole - it's so flavoursome and tender and very easy whilst giving the impression that lots of effort has gone into it ( my favourite type of recipe!)

firefly78 · 27/01/2016 21:57

shamelessly place marking.

CakeNinja · 27/01/2016 22:11

Really sorry, I have nothing to add off the top of my head but am place marking to read back through some of these amazing recipes!
Dp and I low carb through the week, it's quite hard finding quick and easy filling dinners that can sometimes sit as one or even both of us can be out 3/4 evenings a week and also that the DC will also enjoy.

Many times it is very tempting to just throw some pasta on and whip up a sauce, or do some quick pizzas, or just somethings tasty and saucy with some nice crusty bread.
Curse podgy waistline!
We do have a small amount of carbiness at the weekends though so I'm going to have a hunt. Thanks everyone :)

bibbitybobbityyhat · 27/01/2016 22:12

Yes, I love those recipes. The ones that seem sophisticated, when actually they are easy as anything.

I had a friend at University who gave me this recipe for an effortless banana treat: mash bananas with equal quantities of natural yogurt and double cream with icing sugar to taste (you don't need too much sugar). Serve with those semi-crispy rolled up biscuits - can't think of name - at student dinner parties.

I'll be making the sausage and cabbage one tomorrow, and given the praise I think I'll try the pregnancy pasta this weekend too!

Plomino · 27/01/2016 22:22

Jamie's steak and guiness and cheese pie , I now know by heart .
Ditto his fish pie from the second Naked chef book .

Nigella's malteser cake is everyone's request for birthday cake .

Oh and a BBC good food recipe for crispy duck that is now utterly food splattered but is gorgeous and much cheaper than buying enough duck for eight from a takeaway or supermarket .

Jamie's hunter chicken and bread salad
Nigella's Greek salad and ham in Coke

LovelyFriend · 27/01/2016 22:42

Hestons Pea and Pancetta spaghetti is one of the few meals we all like.

It is on the Waitrose website.

Quick, easy, no fancy ingredients and v tasty.

Great idea for a thread thanks.

LovelyFriend · 27/01/2016 22:47

Jamie dues a great pizza dough which freezes well. I usually make it and freeze half.

Jelliebabe1 · 27/01/2016 22:49

Nigellas coq au reisling. I've made it for all my friends and now have to fund a new recipe! Lovely

mimiasovitch · 27/01/2016 22:59

I also love the Hairy Bikers Spanish chicken, and the fish pie is lush too. Most of our family favourites are Nigella's. Spring chicken is probably requested the most, we mostly cook our ham in ginger beer, and her newborn has yielded a few that I've already made several times each: chicken Cosima, chicken with wild rice and Indian style cottage pie. I really love one pot meals.

AvaLeStrange · 27/01/2016 23:10

Can't add a great deal but agree with many PP's - the Hairy Dieter books are great and I use them a lot, especially for the curries and fish recipes.

I have had to register with bbcgoodfood.com so I could save the Coconut Lime crusted chicken recipe! Will also be looking at the Gizzy Erskine Katsu curry for Valentine's Day and the palak pander looks fab for the next time my vegetarian friend comes for dinner Smile.

AvaLeStrange · 27/01/2016 23:12

paneer even!
