The MN food guilt phenomenon

Tonight I am serving my children

Bird's Eye chicken dippers
Bird's Eye fish fingers
McCain Oven chips
Broccoli
Heinz Baked Beanz

I feel that my mind has been twisted so much that I actually feel bad at producing such a "poor" dinner. But that's silly, isn't it? I mean it's 100 % chicken breast (plus batter, 100 % cod (plus batter), potatoes and sunflower oil...

Yes, like Superman and his cloaca

moondog · 21/11/2006 18:45

Carmenere your utterly wet comment of 4:46 pm does a disservice to women.
You are one of the 'oh lets not talk about anything yucky that might make all the mummies feel bad' brigade.

Emkana is an intelligent woman. Only she can weigh up whether her children ingesting parts of 300 mashed up chickens at a time is more or less pertinent and relevant than saving (or perceiving herself to) herself some time.

If you open yourself up to opinions form all sides, then that is exactly what you get.

Mercy · 21/11/2006 18:54

Moondog, as much as I like you, I have to say it wouldn't hurt you to be more constructive in your criticism sometimes. Try posting some positive ideas.

See the thread which Miaou, Mr Miaou and others have been very helpful.

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 18:56

Quadrophenia, you can buy lots more potatoes and make your own pizza for a lot less than that!

moondog · 21/11/2006 18:57

I don't care whether you like me or not.

Positive ideas?

Here's one.

Don't feed your kids shit.
Make 'em a cheese sandwich instead.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/11/2006 18:59

Moondog, Carmenere's post doesnt do a disservice to women at all! How utterly ridiculous!

You suggesting that this is a "women's" issue does a disservice to women, tbqh.

How on Earth are chicken vagina's a feminist issue? Maybe for feminist Hens....? In some bizarre parallel universe where chickens are the "superior" species......?

Quadrophenia · 21/11/2006 18:59

I do do the make my own pizza thing, and my mkids eat a balanced diet but, with the frozen pizza and chips winking at me and the thought of a slam it in the oven dinner I just can't help myself

moondog · 21/11/2006 19:00

Might help if you read the post VVV...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/11/2006 19:00

Cheese sandwich? Cheese made from pus-y cow tit juice? Am shocked at your "positive" suggestion Moondog

Quadrophenia · 21/11/2006 19:02

I am addicted to sandwiches i have a real problem, would be a size 10 if bread had never been invented, now that is a diservice to women, think it may be jesus' fault.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/11/2006 19:02

re-iterating that the post be read isnt really an argument for how its a feminist issue, is it?

Explain how its a "womans" issue. Really. I am intrigued.

Tiggiwinkle · 21/11/2006 19:05

How does chicken breast equal chicken vagina? I am sure there are regulations which mean that if a label states chicken breast the food contains just that.not vaious other parts of the bird. No?

niceglasses · 21/11/2006 19:05

Agree its not about food anymore - its somehow about more than that and thats why pple get foostered about it. Or at least thats how I see it - maybe I am giving it more weight than it deserves. I can't get involved anymore as I just end up saying the same things.

I wouldn't give what you gave your kids Emkana a seconds thought - sounds completely fine to me - you are intelligent, you wouldn't feed them that every bloody day. Where is the harm?

emkana · 21/11/2006 19:06

Well they ate it all.

And had Angel Delight for dessert - which they didn't want.

DimpledThighs · 21/11/2006 19:11

I only eat happy chickens but I can see the point about time stress etc. My soloution is the you can get quorn nuggets and strips - vegeatrian - lots of protein and vagina free (if that bothers you) but also cruelty free and my children love them.

Life, budget, outlook and time all dictate what we eat and feed our children. It is a very emotive issue and even if I try my best I can still identify areas where I would be criticsed adn feel guilty about so I keep those coco pops/supermarket pizza moments to myself!

boboggglimpopo · 21/11/2006 19:13

I think that emkana is a gleeful stirrer...

emkana · 21/11/2006 19:16

Moi?

I do think that your circumstances make a difference as well, I have three children under five and ds is going through a clingy phase atm, lots of carrying around required... so a quick dinner is just v. tempting sometimes!

OP posts:
satine · 21/11/2006 19:17

Moondog, whilst you are absolutely right when you rail against cheap chicken products, I'm afraid some of your posts smack of self righteous and judgemental hectoring which is why some of us react negatively. I imagine you'll say "Well, who cares, what I say is factually correct" but I tell you, too much pious haranguing would drive me closer to the "Unidentifiable Meat Parts" section of the supermarket freezer.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/11/2006 19:20

Hmmm Quorn is soya based, isnt it? Im sure Moondog would have objections to that too.....

Indeed Satine...from this day forward, she shall be known as...Lady Moondog Mills-McCartney

boboggglimpopo · 21/11/2006 19:22

Whilst we are talking about vaginas and the like - I had the most delicious paté at my mils a little while ago. Found out later it was "calves head".

northerner · 21/11/2006 19:22

Ooh this thread is very interesting. Personally I don't give a rats arse what anyone feeds their kids.

Just out of interest moondog what do you make of tinned hotdog sausages?

moondog · 21/11/2006 19:23

Well Satine,that is your perogative.
Make free with the dippers!

Bizarre how women especially recoil from the truth.
Always such an emotional; reaction and much talk of guilt and judging and so on.

Bottom line is that this food is crap.Whether you buy and eat it is entirely up to you however.
If you are happy with that decision, great!
