The MN food guilt phenomenon

Tonight I am serving my children

Bird's Eye chicken dippers
Bird's Eye fish fingers
McCain Oven chips
Broccoli
Heinz Baked Beanz

I feel that my mind has been twisted so much that I actually feel bad at producing such a "poor" dinner. But that's silly, isn't it? I mean it's 100 % chicken breast (plus batter, 100 % cod (plus batter), potatoes and sunflower oil...

Have no idea what chicken dippers are but I am very impressed that your children will eat broccoli!

SOunds fine to me emkana. My kids have a very similar meal once a week - it's one of dd's favourites actually.

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 16:37

I agree with moondog
hate serving chicken's vaginas to dd

But almost as easy and SO much better would be

Free range organic home breaded chicken fillets
Organic potato, chop into wedges, put in a plastic bag and shove in a tsp of oil then squiggle it all around, cook like oven chips but a billion times nicer (make sure you get floury spuds a lot lot nicer
Broccoli
Carrots
Peas

Or other veggies of their liking

It would take NO time to do, also the kids love doing the dippy breadcrumby bit

satine · 21/11/2006 16:38

There are chicken nuggets and chicken nuggets, as far as I'm concerned. M & S or Waitrose ones, from pieces of chicken breast from chickens on named and inspected farms are a whole world away from Asda (for example) value ones from 'recovered' meat from intensively reared birds.
But anyway, Emkana, you're clearly thinking enough about what you feed your kids to post on here, and you're a bloody long long way from giving them red bull and mars bars for lunch!! High horses should only be saddled up for that kind of parent, imo, and the sad thing is they wouldn't listen anyway.

moondog · 21/11/2006 16:39

They've still had a fucking awful life, whether or not we are talking arsehole and vaginas.

They usually debeak them so that they don't peck each others eyes out in their madness and misery.

The shit they stand in burns their legs and claws like acid.

They are pumped full of chemicals to make them grow weirdly fast.

Every mouthful speaks torture and pain.

I am not joking.

(I'm not a vegetarian either)

TheHighwayCod · 21/11/2006 16:40

i used to years ago

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 16:40

I know

I feel like crying when I see a £3 chicken in the supermarket. Isn't a chicken's life worth more than that? (obv not)

TheHighwayCod · 21/11/2006 16:40

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 16:41

Honestly wedges are as easy and nicer

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 21/11/2006 16:42

It's fine Emkana.

We can't all be perfect ALL the time can we.. I mean some of us may pretend to be of course..

But frankly I'd rather be imperfect than so far up my own arse that making people feel bad tripped off my tongue so easily I could kid myself that I was doing them a favour with my oh so wonderful advice...

TheHighwayCod · 21/11/2006 16:42

mine wont eat em

hunkermunker · 21/11/2006 16:42

They debeak fish?! What kind of freaky-arse...oh, hang on, you're talking about the chicken

I had beans for lunch.

hulababy · 21/11/2006 16:42

As an occasional meal it is fine emkana.

I feed DD a pretty healthy and balanced diet and she adores her food and eats almost anything. But yes, on occasions we have cheat dinners too. Sure there are healthier stuff you could eat and yes, sometimes it is as easier or quick to make your own IF you have the ingrediants in and all are defrosted ready to use - but hey, it does no harm at all once in a while!

Nothing wrong with the odd fishfinger sandwich with ketchup

TheHighwayCod · 21/11/2006 16:42

arebaked beans no good?//

northerner · 21/11/2006 16:43

Hurrah for Dara's post.

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 21/11/2006 16:44

I mean honestly! [reads back over thread again] Some people really need to get over themselves! Arseholes and vaginas to you, with FRIES!!

hulababy · 21/11/2006 16:44

Baked beans count towards your 5 a day

TheHighwayCod · 21/11/2006 16:44

think dar is kind of a little more resonable

satine · 21/11/2006 16:45

Some have an awful life, Moondog. Not all.

misdee · 21/11/2006 16:45

sounds like a good easy meal to me.

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 21/11/2006 16:45

And YES.. YAY to Dara!

northerner · 21/11/2006 16:45

Do pulses and baked beans count towards my daily fruit and veg portions?

Beans and pulses can count towards the five portions of fruit and veg we should aim to eat each day, but they can only make up a maximum of one portion a day.

You need to eat three heaped tablespoons of pulses or beans to make up one portion.

Pulses and beans are a good source of protein and they are rich in fibre. They also contain iron, but they don?t provide much of vitamins A, C or E. We need to eat a variety of fruit and veg to make sure that we get these and other important nutrients.

Tinned baked beans can be high in sugar and salt, so try to choose low-sugar, low-salt varieties when you can. If you buy tinned pulses, choose those without added salt if possible.

nailpolish · 21/11/2006 16:46

i think the main reason people buy nuggets and fish fingers is because it is seen as quick and easy

i agree its easy, but its not quicker that whisking up a few eggs, chucking in a chopped tomato and grated cheese and making an omelette

TheHighwayCod · 21/11/2006 16:46

i love beans

i do love baked potato bacon and Philly more though
