Weird Solo Meals?

I can't seem to bring myself to cook for just myself. So I eat weird leftover things.

Today's (early) lunch: cottage cheese and homemade spicy ratatouille. Eaten cold. Yum.

What weird things does everyone else eat?

Oh, the yarn hasn't appeared yet. Hat shouldn't take long to make once yarn is here.

Oh, yarn is a better word for it, anyway!

Wool is a particular fibre, while yarn is anything you'd knit with. I haven't go my head around the fact that all yarns are called "wool" here ...

Ooh, I LOVE cooking just for me. Its so bloody lovely and self-indulgent. I do extra special shops if I know dh is away including lovely things like tiger prawns and scallops. Or a fave standby just for me is prawn Thai curry - really hot. I don't even bother with a bowl but eat it straight from the pan. Sheer bliss. Mind you, can also relate to the chip butty or the mashed potato sandwich with HP sauce

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 03/11/2006 18:38

Just dropped dd off at my dads.Sat on own eating cheesy homemade mash and king prawns

lovely

nolastar · 03/11/2006 19:07

I think I have nearly done a slab of brie

fubsy · 03/11/2006 19:09

Eating alone is great - I can have stovies - Scottish dish with corned beef in that makes DP puke. Then I can have sprouts with everything, and as much mayo as I like on anything with chips. Home made egg fried rice is a current fave too.

nikkie · 03/11/2006 19:37

plain crisp sandwiches
cheese and onion crisps and chocolate

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT · 03/11/2006 19:53

plain scones with too much butter, grated cheese and tinned sweetcorn. And salt

NotQuiteCockney · 03/11/2006 20:07

Greeny, where's the rice? Pasta? Potatoes? Anything?

I probably should cook real meals for myself, but really cannot be arsed. I do try to make sure there are reheating-friendly leftovers about ...

wierdest I remember having was pasta with baked beans after a long shift when I discovered little else in the house (when living alone still, I have to add, in case anyone thinks me the awfullest mum ever). Just out of curiosity, wher are you from NQC since you talk about Brit foibles? And just as an aside, curried/spiced mashed pots in a toasted sarnie is actually quite nice even if not so very good for you

EmmyLou · 04/11/2006 00:27

Anyone else just eaten a quarter of a lemon sponge they made for a Playgroup fundraiser tomorrow?

Could blame it on the dds...

Feel the shame.

FawkesBride · 04/11/2006 00:48

Naughty Emmylou. Are you ...
a) going to get up early and make another one.
b) cut it into small squares and brazen it out
c) nip to the shop and buy a replacement or,
d) stay in bed and pretend you have a 24 hour bug

????? MN wants to know...

crayon · 04/11/2006 14:08

I regularly have a pint of hot chocolate for lunch/supper if I don't fancy what the boys are having. As a student I would have a bowl of mashed swede (yum).

EmmyLou · 04/11/2006 16:46

Fawkesbride - I took in the 3/4 that was left and casually said that I'd taken 1/4 as we'd had no pudding in the house the night before...there were raised eyebrows from the mums that know me but the 'greed effect' was tempered by the fact that i had taken in another homemade cake too.

But Crayon - a bowl of mashed swede! Bluergh.

My favourite solo snack is a Duchy Original oaten biscuit with 3 squares of Green & Blacks dark chocolate - the rough and the smooth together mmmm.

Dh likes stilton and strawberry jam on water table crackers.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/11/2006 17:13

Oh, funny, I was thinking about how I've not had swede for ages, and wanting some .

A Fry's Chocolate Creme sandwich. Better if it is on white bread too.

You can hear my heart palpitating from a mile away.

NotQuiteCockney · 05/11/2006 14:23

Ok, that's pretty gross, tbh.

I spoke to a Norwegian friend today, and she told me that although they don't do the whole "pasta with a side of bread and some rice on top, with a garnish of potato", they do eat a great deal of potato. So maybe it is the cold and damp ...

loopybear · 05/11/2006 18:08

my mum eats condensed milk butties, when she lived in the uk and went to slimming club she'd sometimes explain to the person doing the weighing in "I don't understand it I'd have to muffle the laughter cos I knew she'd had a condensed milk buttie!!"

NotQuiteCockney · 05/11/2006 18:55

Is condensed milk the sweetened one?

Actually, I don't know why I'm asking, either way, it's gross

Only just seen this thread - I love carbs but when i was pg the only thing i really had a desperate craving for was oranges smug-healthy or wot?

And GunpowderTreasonAndSNOT - I had pre-eclampsia too with ds1, and swelled to gigantic proportions - 5'10 and 110kg which I think is about 17 stone - I was 12 stone beforehand. Mind you - I had 9lb8oz baby & the biggest placenta the mw had ever seen so when i weighed myself 2 days later i'd lost 2 & a half stone - poor old kidneys must've had to be turbocharged.
