is anyone geeky enough to have a spreadsheet or similar for meal planning?

i really want to start planning meals for the week so that we stop just going out for expensive food from M&S at the last minute.
i'm making a chicken casserole tonight (for tomorrow) and realised i didn't have any onions. Phoned DH who was out and about and he brought home three large-ish brown onions from Marks whihc cost £1.59. For, let me repeat, THREE onions. THREE

christ almighty! i'm a bit worried the supermarkets are all going to run out of the same stuff on the same day on the same week...
must say, i am pleased i'm not the only one who seems to waste too much food. (well, i'm not pleased as such as obviously it's really bad how much food is wasted by YKWIM). i've stopped being conned into the buy 2, save 50p etc etc. really, it means you just end up paying almost double for one pack and the other one rots in the fridge!

in fact, why don't we email the spreadsheet to Tescos, Sainsburys, M&S, ASdas etc and then they'll make sure they're stocked up, enough chicken for mondays, red peppers on tuesdays...
