Well that went a bit odd!! Was going to say about clean eating term. I cannot think why I wanted to know now! But yes it does sound like any deviation from the regime is dirty eating. I am still reading the nourishing wisdom book. In that it says that when we say something is bad for you, it can make the eater think they are a bad person for eating it. That struck a chord with me and I am avoiding that expression with my own dc.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 28/07/2014 17:33

Totally agree stillearnin

DS has started to be taught about foods being "bad or good for the body" by school and I'm trying to navigate the concept of treats and enjoying nice food but making sure you have a healthy diet, so hard and I get myself all tied up in knots but because he's only 5 it all probably goes over his head and makes him confused anyway!

For now I'm just trying to be extra positive about "good" food rather than placing a negative emphasis on "bad" food

Sleepwhenidie · 28/07/2014 17:56

That's sort of my approach too Americas, my DC's seem to like knowing what different foods do for your body, so protein makes you strong and vegetables make your body less likely to catch cold for instance, but sweets (though we acknowledge they taste nice and they can have them on weekends), don't do anything good for you at all and can rot your teeth. The only thing I do demonise is fizzy drinks but we are now at the stage with ds1 where he is with friends etc and has to make the decision for himself whether to drink them if on offer Confused....

I'm on holiday atm, I'm being very relaxed and just enjoying whatever we're eating. There is an amazing bbq here though so we've been using that- steak and salad mmmm!

I'll get on track again when we get homeSmile

Oh crap have finally weighed in (I know, I know) after my 6week UK indulgence splurge and yup put on exactly 6lbs....I can tell from my body but it's a kick up the arse seeing it on the scales in black and greyscale

Sleepwhenidie · 29/07/2014 18:07

Have a lovely time Dame, sounds fantastic Smile

stilllearnin · 01/08/2014 15:39

Oh baked courgette strips- kids loved them and they never eat courgettes even sliced in a sauce - let alone being presented with whole strips. The trick is now for me not to get overexcited and serve them every night or they'll go off it by next week!

AmericasTorturedBrow · 01/08/2014 16:59

Recipe please! Desperately trying to get our glut down them

shortaris1 · 01/08/2014 19:46

Evening all, some lovely food this week. Hot and tired tonight so did stirfry from a packet with some prawns and brown rice. Delish!

Love courgettes here too!

Hello again eatbetterers, I'm the other side of a stressful house move now (as an aside, never ever try to get a mortgage with the Clydesdale - they lost our paperwork, so we were temporarily homeless), but am really pleased that I kept eating reasonably healthily throughout - it really started dawning on me that eating a vat of chocolate would just make me crash and burn, so I'd feel worse in the end. Am a real convert to high protein breakfasts and snacks now, and have really noticed having more energy and a better mood overall, and I'm sleeping better too.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 02/08/2014 18:52

God how stressful maisie but well done on healthy eating throughout it and congrats on your new home!

I've had a full week of eating much better, and paying attention to hunger so not overeating or eating mindlessly. Despite very early wake ups from DD I do feel much better - I'm knackered but feeling so much more relaxed and positive. Haven't touched sugar in a week which I'm sure has helped - apart from some very yummy froyo yesterday which I really enjoyed and didn't feel at all guilty for eating, yay!

Back to a veggie/pescatarian/limited dairy and eggs diet too which seems to have helped my digestive system - doubly proven by DH who has had a three day meatfest and dear god he reeks and has quite sore stomach pains. We're never going to be fully veggie or vegan but have both noticed when we massively cut back on animal products we feel better for it - probably because of compensating with fresh fruit and veg more.

Hi try this therecipecritic.com/2013/08/baked-zucchini-fries/ for courgette bakes. But basically you coat in flour, then egg or some kind of milk, and then breadcrumbs. I put garlic powder in with the flour. The courgette were slightly soft in places but the breadcrumbs made them crispy. By the way, I actually whizz up and freeze the end of loaves to make sure I have breadcrumbs. I find this astounding and hilarious in equal measure Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/08/2014 10:25

Hello,I'm home againSmile

Back on track and reining it in now after a week of red meat, fish and chips, lobster and ice creamsGrin

Welcome back Dame!

I processed a few courgettes an spinach into some homemade pesto - I don't normally like hiding vegetables like that but they wolfed it down

Neeko · 03/08/2014 21:14

Hi all. Had a very busy couple of weeks and eating could have been better to be honest but taking small steps and not beating myself up over it.
I've been attending the physio for hip pain and he gave me the ok to try running again so I went for my first run today. Took it easy and hip is fine so feeling quite positive.
Hope all of you on holiday are having a lovely time. Smile

MollyBdenum · 04/08/2014 10:06

Hello people. I normally eat pretty well, but was busy menu planning for this week so I thought I'd take a peek in here, but you all seem lovely, so I am posting top mark my place and join in properly.

firefly78 · 05/08/2014 12:08

hello can I join please! trying to eat better including the children. currently potty training and gave my three year old a white chocolate button for doing a wee. shoved a few in my mouth too and thought how horrible they were. used to love them!

Sleepwhenidie · 05/08/2014 12:54

Welcome Molly and firefly! It's a bit quiet here at the moment, normal for school holidays, lovely to have you though Smile.

firefly it's amazing how much your tastes can change isn't it. I think my most recent revelation is green tea, it took a while but now I really enjoy it, but can remember thinking it was vile, I sort of built up to it with flavoured and then unflavoured white tea. Same for dark choc, just went for higher and higher cocoa content, though 75% is about my limit for enjoyment Grin

What foods did everyone else enjoy before that they don't now, or vice versa?

Neeko great news on your hip! were you ok the day after your run?

Neeko · 05/08/2014 17:15

Welcome Molly and Firefly Smile

Sleep. How's your nutribullet enjoying its holiday? Wink
My legs were a little stiff the next day but the hip wasn't any more sore than usual. I can't believe I waited so long to seek help. Going to try another short run tonight and build it up slowly.

I used to love haribo and white bread toasted (but not together). Neither of them do it for me anymore.

firefly78 · 05/08/2014 18:57

how did you build up to green tea? I find it quite bland and love my normal cuppa!!

firefly78 · 05/08/2014 19:00

sorry if this has already been mentioned but nakd bars are great. completely natural and tasty.

MollyBdenum · 05/08/2014 19:12

Twinings do flavoured green tea. The salted caramel one is lovely - it's like having tea and a biscuit all in one.

Sleepwhenidie · 05/08/2014 21:52

I still love my normal builders tea first thing! After that though, it's green tea pretty much all the way. I use teapigs which the blurb says is less bitter than other brands-I get 3 cups from 1 tea bag.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 06/08/2014 07:18

Ugh I really want to like green tea but it's Ming

Gorge fest today sadly, woke up on the wrong side of the bed and I think PMT is kicking in, so I made myself feel better with a lot of ginger biscuits and ice cream

Oh well
