I had porridge too! With almond milk - is that a good thing? I am flirting with veganism after a long absence and I'm picking off my dairy addictions one by one. Eggs is going to be tough. Though there are chickens round the corner so I might investigate that.

At the same time I am learning to cook dd meat Grin. She doesn't like my cooking (as in lentil bolognase, so she says, veggie chilli etc). I have taught her to make chicken nuggets herself so far - I mean homemade ones. She eats all veg but not all mucked around like I do!

Does anyone have any other healthy and easy meat dishes she may enjoy. She's 10 but pretty capable of preparing things herself and I'm keen for her to learn (so I don't have to). The rest of the family are veggie but I love her making her own decisions. Typically her older brother went all PA...that's fine if you like dead flesh, you go ahead etc etc. brothers!!

stilllearnin · 20/04/2015 23:09

Oh and dame, great to see you back. Good luck desugaring!

sleepwhenidie · 21/04/2015 08:09

Holmes glad to hear DS is on the mend Smile. Do you think your issue with chocolate might be a hangover of diet mentality - where you are mentally labelling it as bad or that you shouldn't be eating it, so forbidden fruit effect? May be worth giving yourself full permission to eat it for a while (2-3 weeks) and see what happens?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/04/2015 08:14

I give myself permission and then can't flipping stop Sad

Actually, not entirely true, if I can get back on track I can eat Aldi dark chocolate drops and that hits the spot. I just need to steer clear of the bloody great dairy milk crap that ds and dh buy ...

Hello!Smile

I had porridge for breakfast and just had an apple. I'm going out for lunch with friends, sort of picnic, one friend is bringing rolls and I am in charge of desert and crisps. I can skip the crisps no problem as they are not my thing, desert on the other hand...

I bought 3 slices of cheesecake, I thought if I'm going to have some I might as well have something really nice and I won't be able to have more/take some home if there are only 3 slices.

Food tonight will be salmon and wholewheat cous cous which I really recommend, so much nicer than the white stuff, will probably have it with roasted onion and butternut squash cubes.

Hello - found you again!

I have been having a crap few weeks with family bereavements, anxiety, indigestion problems and crap eating (although which causes which is anyone's guess!).

This morning however, I went to see a nutritionist and am going to get back on track with 4 weeks of being really strict in:

  1. cutting out wheat
  2. cutting out sugar
  3. eating nutrient-rich stuff (eating-betterer essentially)
  4. taking a probiotic and some other stuff (B12, Omega 3 etc) as recommended by the nutritionist

Long term I want to get off the crappy pills I am on (omeprazole and iron tablets), have more energy and just FEEL BETTER. Nutritionist thinks I may have a candida infection which will be starved out by cutting out wheat and sugar.

Today has been a bit crappy though. I made a rye loaf which I thought would be good, but then was to hungry to make it part of a balanced meal and just ate 2 slices in quick succession with butter and then cream cheese. And then a really crappy "eat natural" bar with a massively sugary yoghurt coating (sigh). Now sipping green tea, belching and feeling sorry for myself....

Neeko · 22/04/2015 07:10

Oh hello. You had dropped off the threads I'm on and I hadn't realised the thread was still going. I'm off to catch up now Smile.

sleepwhenidie · 22/04/2015 07:29

Hi Bram, sorry to hear you've been having a rough time Sad. And candida is horrible - sympathies. Plan sounds good though. Which probiotic did your nutritionist recommend if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Neeko I think there's a few of us who haven't checked in for a while Grin

sleepwhenidie · 22/04/2015 07:34

Had a fab dinner last night, prawn shu mai from the local fishmonger (he is French but the shop also has strong Japanese slant, they sell sashimi and sushi and all the stuff you need to make your own). Then beautiful tuna steaks that I brushed with sumac mixed with olive oil and seared and served on top of griddled courgettes and bulgur wheat (soaked in boiling water for 20 mins), with chopped spring onions, pomegranate seeds, mint and parsley-lots of lemon juice and a drizzle of olive oil and seasoning. Delicious! Courtesy Women's Health mag.

Bramshott · 22/04/2015 12:36

Thanks sleep. She recommended Udo's Choice Super 8 High Count Probiotics.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/04/2015 13:21

AfternoonSmile

Another good day so far, porridge this morning and an egg sandwich with brown bread and an apple. Not sure about tea tonight...

I've also bought cod liver oil capsules as someone suggested they are good for rosacea and I have a flare up atm.

sleepwhenidie · 22/04/2015 22:46

Hello! Just finished a great dish from Anna Jones, the roast cherry tomato and black bean taco soup. I used pinto beans as that's what I had in, used a touch of chipotle paste for more heat and added roast halloumi instead of poached egg (I cannot get on board with currently popular egg and avocado combo Confused) - I'd highly recommend it!

stilllearnin · 23/04/2015 07:35

But poached egg is the king of all food surely? I want that Anna jones book but I am going to force myself to do some more new dishes from my current library.

I just made my porridge with hazelnut milk - its like making it with milkshake!!

sleepwhenidie · 23/04/2015 07:38

Oh yes yes, Still so are avocados - but not together!! Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/04/2015 13:10

I just had avocado on crisp bread with a boiled egg on the side, mmmmmmmGrin not sure I'm keen on anything runny near my avocado though!

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 23/04/2015 14:44

Gah - sorry I didn't reply, Sleep - I have been without my phone for a few days as I shut it in the car door Hmm Blush Angry.
Anyway... I know what you mean about giving myself permission, but the problem is that it's so bloody addictive. The problem will go away to some extent once the Easter eggs are gone - it is chocolate that I find impossible to resist!

Also, I'm feeling much more positive and healthy atm because I've really got back into my running now, ahead of the half marathon. Doing plenty of exercise just makes everything else kind of slot into place for me - I'm happier, more organised, better with the dc and just feel a bit more in control of everything (in a good way Grin ).

sleepwhenidie · 23/04/2015 15:24

That's it Dame, the texture of runny yolk with avocado just puts me off. I can cope with hard boiled!

Holmes you sound back on an even keel Smile, good news. The weather probably helps too!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/04/2015 15:33

I've just got an allotment, filled in the paper work today, going to grow lots of veggiesGrin

OP posts:
sleepwhenidie · 23/04/2015 16:20

How exciting Dame Smile, that's fantastic!

Feckthis · 25/04/2015 10:37

may I join this thread please? I'm trying to clear the rubbish out of my and my family's diets and have stumbled upon this Clean Eating lark which sounds right up my street but there's so much 'out there' about it I'm not too sure where to start...I too have just got an allotment so want to use it to grow veg and fruits too. Am I in the right place? What's a good starting point? Thanks in advance.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2015 18:55

Hello, you are in the right place, welcomeGrin

Sleep is the person to chat too, she knows her stuff!

I'm still doing ok, managing not to snack and having porridge every morning. Need to get green veg into my diet but planning to buy a blitzer thing to attach to my kenwood chef.

I had porridge this morning, then had a birthday lunch in London today so I had braised lamb shank and mash and cabbage,I had a dessert but only had a mouthful and gave the rest to my aunt. A mouthful was plenty and didn't want to undo all the hard work I've put in.

Overall I feel a bit more in control again which is a nice feeling as I was binging again and not even enjoying what I was eatingHmm

Hope everyone else is enjoying the weekend Smile

sleepwhenidie · 26/04/2015 09:36

Welcome feckthis, yes, join us! We are all about small positive changes, less sugar and less processed food generally but also about ditching the idea of guilt and banning anything completely - so we might avoid 'eating clean' as a label because it implies that anything outside of that remit is a failing Smile. Quality and enjoyment of whatever we choose to eat is paramount too!

What are your main changes you'd like to make? Breakfast is often a good place to start, what do you normally have?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/04/2015 16:30

Afternoon all Smile

Yoghurt for breakfast with a banana and some almonds then I did a bbq for lunch, chicken and salmon with loads of salad and some wholemeal bread- lovely.

I'll make a soup probably later if I'm still hungry.

Ds is eating porridge in the mornings with maple syrup - never though I'd see the day!Shock

Bramshott · 27/04/2015 13:58

Nearly went off the rails today as have just spent an hour delayed on Waterloo Station. However, saved by Pret chicken, broccoli and brown rice soup which was really delicious.

It would of course be the day I decided I was going to spend the train journey being mindful rather than reading, so I didn't bring a book with me - sigh!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/04/2015 14:28

Good save BramshottWink

I had porridge again this morning, and then met a friend for lunch and I chose poached eggs on brown toast, yay meGrin

Think tonight will be lemon chicken and veg/ salad.

Energy is back up already and only been a week roughly, skin is still really shit but hopefully that'll come right.
