I've made a couple recently that I want to show off to people... We could all go 'ooooh' at each other's efforts!

The Team Jessie one was for Race for Life - my niece has survived a usually fatal cancer.

Thanks nannycook! I used to enter competitions about 15 years ago but the children's categories are a whole other kettle of fish! I was amazed to be placed at all at this one but I'm more inclined to do more now! You should give it a go!

Eden, nearly did, theres a local one here on Sunday but I run out of time to apply, its based on Star wars, and I was asked to do a cake off but so scared I turned it down, you had to create a design and do it in front of an audience, no thank you!!

nannycook · 02/05/2014 21:25

This one I just finished tonight.

Edendance · 03/05/2014 15:00

Very neat! It looks lovely!

Love that wedding cake nannycook, beautiful design.
I haven't made a cake for about a month now, getting withdrawal symptoms!

nannycook · 03/05/2014 20:39

Not the best Rapunzel cake, but my DD's loved it for their 5th and 7th birthday party. Plus a baptism cake with ruffles on to match the baby's gown.

noroom did you use a spray for the silver bit of the dress? I used a spray for the bin on the grouch cake but had to use loads! Bloody expensive at nearly £5 a can!

5madthings · 04/05/2014 22:23

Yum yum Rufus that's maltesers on the cake yes?!!

NoRoomForALittleOne · 04/05/2014 22:25

Yes I did but it didn't take much of the spray. I think the photo makes it look far more silvery than it was in RL. It is the same sugar paste as the rest of the dress but with a bit of sparkle spray.

5madthings · 04/05/2014 22:27

I used two cans, but I was covering a large surface I guess, it's white roll out icing and when I realised it wasn't going to cover well with the spray I mixed a tiny bit of black wiltons paste colouring mixed with water to make a light grey and painted it and then sprayed it again and again and again..

NoRoomForALittleOne · 04/05/2014 22:28

It's the first time I've made a doll cake and I know all of the things that I would change for next time to get a much better shape and more elegant dress. I was too tired to do it with finesse this time having survived 3 out of four children having chickenpox over Easter and trying to prepare for moving (into a smaller) house in six weeks time. The girls loved it though.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 04/05/2014 22:28

What brand of spray?

5madthings · 04/05/2014 22:30

Just Dr oetker as it was my local shop had, next time I will go to the baking shop in town and but one they recommend. The doll cake is awesome, my mum made me one like that when I was little :)

I use Dr Oerker too as it is cheap. I think that I would spray it on grey sugar paste if I wanted a silver effect. It does seem to turn any shade of purple particularly silvery though!

MaureenMLove · 04/05/2014 22:35

Why have I only just found this! Here's my contribution. I could go on for days with pictures, but I won't!

Wow amazing r2d2, I did r2d2 for ds2 one year, it wasn't that good though.

Tbh I don't have the patience for detail etc so I tend to rush, I need to learn to take my time!

I looked at grey roll out icing but the only one I found was too dark. Though maybe it would look lighter when sprayed?

Next up is a minecraft cake for ds2, I need to go buy loads of greens, browns and Grey's and cut into teeny tiny squares... And make some minecraft characters out of sugar paste.

MaureenMLove · 04/05/2014 22:41

The silver is edible paint. I used white icing and painted it on. Much cheaper and a little pot goes a long, long way.
