I've made a couple recently that I want to show off to people... We could all go 'ooooh' at each other's efforts!

Yes stealth, I'm not that clever! I was lucky with that as I believe it came free with one of the Cake Decorating mags, I have seen them on Amazon, actually I think you can buy some of them in 3's, I would like the brick one and the cobble stone, all in good time though.

Loving everyone's cakepops something I've not made yet.

Why taffeta? Whats the difference between that and say Cadbury's choc? I've seen candy melts many times and been tempted to buy them but need to know why ppl buy them, should try it really, are they expensive to buy?

5madthings · 01/04/2014 21:46

I have looked at the candy melts, they don't seem too expensive and come in a variety of colours.

MikeLitoris · 01/04/2014 21:54

I've got a little electric melting pot thingy I use when making cake pops. Iike a little fondue. I prefer to use candy melts but did find they took a few goes to get right.

Taffeta · 01/04/2014 21:54

They vary in price, dependent on colour and where you buy them. They aren't a natural product in any way, the list of ingredients is shocking, but they do a very good job. I found normal chocolate way too drippy, and of course colouring white chocolate is a PITA, and the colours never seem to be that vivid, whereas with candy melts it's already done for you, and the colours are good. But the main plus IME is the texture.

Taffeta · 01/04/2014 21:56

I just looked in the cupboard to see if I had any to look at the ingredients. I have found an unopened packet of black ones. Only 7 months til Halloween....Hmm

stealthsquiggle · 01/04/2014 22:00

Oh yes, Candy melts best used for things which you don't plan to eat yourself that or just don't read the ingredients but even they flipping well seized on me when I was trying to make cake pops in a tearing rush for the village fete - the most successful ones were just dipped in sainsburys' basic dark chocolate, which is a store cupboard staple in my house for making brownies.

Tinkerball · 03/04/2014 08:24

TreacleMoon123 · 03/04/2014 09:49

Fab treacle.

nannycook · 04/04/2014 22:29

Fab treacle.

Tinkerball · 05/04/2014 09:17

It looks great! I have resorted to metal letter cutters as I didn't get on with the plastic ones, only thing is they don't look as fancy as your letters Treacle!

TreacleMoon123 · 08/04/2014 09:07

Oh tinkerball, I have a love/hate relationship with those bloody cutters. They are so finicky :/
