What the world eats

I would like to think we eat like Italy or Mexico, in reality tis more like USA or UK

OP posts:
Dawndonna · 28/04/2013 09:58

I'm Spanish, so I guess Mexico with far less coke than is shown on that picture!

MrsCosmopilite · 28/04/2013 10:03

Closest to Italy.

Is anyone else shocked by the disparity between Mail/Chad and the majority of the rest?

TeWiSavesTheDay · 28/04/2013 10:06

Yes, it is quite shocking.

You can see quite clearly that the volume of food for the countries with obesity problems is very big as well.

BeingAWifeIsNotForMe · 28/04/2013 10:12

Italy or Turkey but without the meat and possibly even more bread Blush

HazleNutt · 28/04/2013 10:16

We're in France so we eat like the French - more fruit and veggies though.

I'm Shock at the amount of chocolate the British family eats. In a week. Is that really normal?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/04/2013 10:25

Very interesting!

The poor arteries of the Australians shown!

I think we are closest to France but with a lot more vegetables.

Jamillalliamilli · 28/04/2013 11:00

Add some coffee, milk, sugar, marge, and cheese, and make the sack smalller but allow it to be split into a variety of grains, pulses, and pasta, and more importantly only a third of the number of people for the amount, Sad and we are Bhutan.

I just showed oldest who agreed, but was really shocked that a bit less than what we have must go round twelve. Food for thought.

TwllBach · 28/04/2013 11:09

That's such a brilliant set of pictures, I would love to have them in my class. I think, once I get on a computer, I'll have a bit of a search and see what else I can find out about the pictures.

So, in essence, I'm just posting so I don't lose the link...

FredFredGeorge · 28/04/2013 11:14

The Brits seem to be eating cat and dog food too, unlike all othe countries. And remarkably little meat, compared to the average, so it does appear to be not calculated from the average.

HorryIsUpduffed · 28/04/2013 11:17

Canada, which surprises me.

But I'm generally amazed by the sheer quantity of bread, fizzy pop and booze in most pictures. Even allowing for countries where you can't/don't drink tap water, good heavens.

thanks lucky stars yet again that I live in a country where clean water is cheap and on tap

KentuckyFriedChildren · 28/04/2013 11:28

Fred there is a dog in the british pic Smile

FredFredGeorge · 28/04/2013 11:48

KentuckyFrriedChicken THEY EAT THE DOG?

TeWiSavesTheDay · 28/04/2013 11:54

Being ill in bed with nothing better to do I've just tried to work out what our family table would look like.

I think it would be about 1/4 meat, dairy + eggs, 1/3 fruit and veg, 1/4 bread/pasta/rice, 1/12 unhealthy snacks, 1/24 healthy snacks and 1/24 sauces, spices etc.

We are British/NZ.

Delayingtactic · 28/04/2013 12:02

Mostly Canada but for meat quantity Australia (I'm South African)

tak1ngchances · 28/04/2013 12:02

We are like a cross between Canada and Turkey I think

The british table is completely foul

tak1ngchances · 28/04/2013 12:06

Actually we are a cross between Canada & Australia in our house

WildThongsHeartString · 28/04/2013 12:07

Not so much a country, more an 'age' as in prehistoric!
I have to serve meat at every meal to my cavemen, different styles and sides but always meat.

Boomba · 28/04/2013 12:08

I live in Britain. My friends are very eclectic. I don't know anyone those eating habits are represented by the Britain photo Confused

NeedsTherapy · 28/04/2013 12:19

We're like France but a little bit of Canada thrown in for good measure!

Grin fred

KentuckyFriedChildren · 28/04/2013 12:31

Fred Grin pretty sure the dog is the one who eats the dog food, but you never know...

Barbabeau · 28/04/2013 13:06

I think we're most like France but without the mineral water and maybe a bit of Canada. We don't drink as much as the Germans.

Regular shops are fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, eggs, fish, tinned tuna, milk, juice, olives, pasta, pasta sauce, beans, rice, humous, yoghurt, jam, peanut butter, sugar free/low sugar cereal, coffee, tea, beer, etc. Our downfall is ready meals for some midweek suppers when we're pressed for time. We're trying to cut that out though.

We don't buy biscuits except once in a blue moon but do make muffins / biscuits regularly. I'm the only one who eats meat so rarely have it at home. DH keeps buying crisps for us, even though I've asked him to cut it out as I have low willpower.

DH makes his own bread as he's gluten free.

OneFingerSjupesUpTheYoni · 28/04/2013 13:11

Australia could be my kitchen - lots and lots of meat, crreals and too much juice :)

The uk was an embarrassment i could'nt have that amount of utter shite in the house. We have bits every week but just not multipacks/half a cupboard full Shock

Trill · 28/04/2013 13:12

My house is like Britain, because I don't think any other country has so thoroughly embraced different kinds of food from all over the world.

(this comment does not really reflect the photos though)

I agree with Boomba

canyou · 28/04/2013 13:13

I think we shop like France mostly, but a bit more veg and fruit, although depending on where the French family are they could have a veg/fruit patch for their needs [Most of Dijon are did when we lived there] and shopping was daily at the market. Dinner was interesting depending on how early I went to the market and how productive I felt they had a distinct lack of ready meals and comfort food
Sad at Mali and Chad

Juniperdewdropofbrandy · 28/04/2013 13:17

I'd say we're between Italy China and India. Not much processed stuff.
