What constitutes a perfect barbeque for YOU?

I'll bet I'm not the only one planing a barbeque this weekend.

I'd like to shamelessly steal some of your ideas OhCleverAndCreativeMNers.

Meatballs - minced beef, ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar, chopped shallots... Shape into balls and skewer them, about 6 on a kebab skewer , then barbecue them.....yummmmmmmm

We make Jamie Oliver's Botham burgers - they are lovely but we make loads more than four, otherwise you end up with four very large thick burgers that burn on the outside and don't cook on the inside.

Also hot dogs with fried onions - we get the sausages from our local butcher who does all sorts of random flavours.

If we do chicken we always cook it in the oven first and then BBQ it at the last minute.

Dropdeadfred's meatballs sound lovely - will have to try them.

ga roti ( vietnamese grilled five spice chicken), tomato rice, some ga goi (shredded chicken salad) and maybe salad nems. google ga roti and some lovely american vietnamese boys have a good video

or lebanese bbq (chicken kebabs, thighs) with toum (garlic sauce) and turkish pickles wrapped p in village bread

Lamb burgers - burger shaped version of nigella's feast's lamb meatballs. Taste like downer kebab but without the dicing with death risk. Eaten with pita, salad, coleslaw, mint/ yoghurt and chilli sauce.

Homemade salsas & fresh chutneys to set off properly cooked meat, fish & a good selection of marinated grilled veg, maybe some haloumi with lime juice. Interesting salads. Something sparkling to drink.

Worst bbqs are those cooked by men, the men who don't usually cook, the men who can't cook but cook bbq because it's a man's job and there's no telling them that the meat is overcooked when it's black, the salad is usally limp and pretty scarce with horrible dips bought from a supermarket and burger buns....have been to too many bad bbqs, fortunately most have had adequate liquid refreshment so I've been able to aviod eating much of the food.

Loads of salads to go with the burnt offerings.
My BBQs tend to be a mixture of tikka chicken, chops, nice sausages and home made burgers. No particular recipe for the burgers just meat, onions and seasoning.
Plenty of beer/wine soft drinks too.
Me and DD walked to Tesco last night, we smelled loads. I wish we had a BBQ, ours is in Belgium.

Pork ribs, corn on the cob, crusty bread, homemade burgers, greek salad....did I mention crusty bread? Oh and eton mess after. YUM!
