What constitutes a perfect barbeque for YOU?

I'll bet I'm not the only one planing a barbeque this weekend.

Grin

I'd like to shamelessly steal some of your ideas OhCleverAndCreativeMNers.

Mmm, all this sounds great, there's nothing worse than a BBQ that's just burgers and sausages.

I do homemade lamb mince kebabs with fresh mint, coriander, cumin and turmeric with mint yoghurt and pitta.

I really want some halloumi now, but bet its all sold out!

  1. It won't be referred to as a barbeque, but a braai
  2. It has to be very very sunny, clear skies and with a swimming pool within jumping distance

Then, you have the following:

  • Boerewors and Mrs Balls chutney
  • Potato salad
  • lamb chops grilled to the perfect level, where they're just done, served with tons of harissa
  • herby marinated chicken legs/thighs
  • couscous salad
  • other salads
  • dry bread rolls (essential for it to be an authentic braai)

And for desert - watermelon that has been in the fridge

It should last all afternoon, with nice very chilled white wine or beers or Savannah cider.

That is perfection

If you are having any lamb meat, I think its nice to wrap in tin foil some dried apricots and put it on the BBQ at the same time as you cook the lamb :) I love lamb and cooked apricots Grin

OhNoMyFanjo · 25/05/2012 17:15

Garlic pitta bread, put garlic butter into pitta bread and put in the BBQ. Oh and s'mores Grin

Mango salsa

Good with everything. I don't bother with red peppers though; just mango, red onion, coriander, lime juice and chilli.

PurplePidjin · 25/05/2012 17:26

Corn on the cob - boil indoors then crisp on the barbie. Squeeze over fresh lime, sprinkle with chilli powder

Waterfelon: get a melon, inject vodka. Constantly. For two days. Serve very cold.

5inthebed · 25/05/2012 17:45

AbsofAwsomeness, a woman after my own heart!

Got to have curried beans and cheesey tatties as well though, and pork chops not lamb, and perhaps some aromat as well...

AngryFeet · 25/05/2012 17:54

I get my potato salad, mozzerrella and roasted tomato salad with pesto and greek salad from Waitrose entertaining . Also love the Waitrose deli burgers (lamb and mint and pork with sage).

Anchorwoman · 25/05/2012 18:00

Corn on the cob, done first in pan of boiling water and finished on the BBQ. Roll in creme freche and sprinkle generously with finely grated Parmesan cheese. British twist on a south American dish and though it sounds dodgy, is lush.

Salmon kebabs - chunks of salmon, peppers and courgette marinaded in pesto and lemon juice. We're having drumsticks and burgers too, plus caesar salad and avocado, tomato and mozarella salad, garlic bread and strawberry gateau for pudding.

Sprogstersmum · 25/05/2012 19:09

Oh and I'm thinking of adding halloumi in somewhere now as everyone's talking about it and I have some in the fridge. And corn on the cob - forgot about those. Have been shopping today to buy everything.

WantAnOrange · 25/05/2012 19:22

You can do great BBQ paninis: open up ciabatta rolls, spread with pesto, add Parma ham, mozzarella, tomato slices, and strips of courgette that you've already charred. Roll up in tin foil and weigh down for a bit. Then toast on both sides. When you open them up the mozzarella should have melted - cut into strips or squares with a sharp knife.

pipsy76 · 25/05/2012 19:55

Potatoe

chocolateshoes · 25/05/2012 20:09

This are amazing - brilliant for veggies & non-veggies alike. They cook really quickly too so quite nice as a starter. I always bring some and get loads of compliments:www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/may/24/recipe.foodanddrink

Pinot · 25/05/2012 20:42

sausages
burgers with plastic cheese slices
nasty white bread rolls
ketchup

Blush

I may go mad and get the mustard out too. Ker-azy.

OhNoMyFanjo · 25/05/2012 20:45

Pinot you classy bird Grin

Ps have you seen tge ad for morrisions?

OhNoMyFanjo · 25/05/2012 20:47

chocolateshoes I do a similar thing with a tub of antipasti and some pitas, make sure you put a little of tge oil on the out side. Also nice with some feta in.

Pinot · 25/05/2012 20:49

I haven't Fanjo - should I? :o

MarySA · 25/05/2012 20:51

The perfect barbecue for me is one where I am not there. Sorry to be a misery. But I totally hate them. Smoky horrible nasty things. And the food half raw and half burnt.
