MT - our butcher doesn't do it cos it's 'cooked' - they don't do 'cooked products'. where would you get 'nice ham'? I have to get Tesco but must admit it looks bleurgh!

Janh · 14/01/2006 20:13

DH buys crap ham - among other things - what he eats sometimes sends me out of the house [gag]

Mum2OneAndBump · 14/01/2006 20:14

Well Dp won't eat the ham you can get in boxes from like tescos he will only eat the sliced ham from over the deli counter. I am the same as is Ds.

PennyLess · 14/01/2006 20:14

I used to get a big ham mail order then slice and freeze but then I started getting Tesco's Finest wafer thin, which is a lot less hassle... do you think this qualifies as crap ham?

my mum told me she heard the bernard matthews wafer thin ham has about as much crap in as his turkey twizzlers. anyone know if its true?

TeddyRobinson · 14/01/2006 20:16

LOL MT! I try to buy packaged ham that is at least not square, or, even worse 'teddy' or 'train' shaped!

Ds1 went to someone's house for tea last week adn came back telling me he had 'teddy ham'! EEEK!

I used to shop at tescos till about 1 week ago, but never had the tescos finest so can not say i always got my ham from the deli counter. I find tescos food quality has gone down hill so now i shop at Sainsburys & pop to morrisons for odd bits like bread in the mid week.

Earlybird · 14/01/2006 20:31

My local farmer's market has delicious ham sold by a business affiliated with a stately home. Really good.

hoxtonchick · 14/01/2006 20:32

tesco's organic wafer thin is pretty good. not wet at all...

CountessDracula · 14/01/2006 20:33

god that's weird I was just thinking this
have just put a pizza in the oven and read on the label - "smoke flavoured reformed ham with added water..."

feel quite ill
[hi MT how are you enjoying not being on MN ]

Marina · 14/01/2006 20:36

Ocado don't deliver deli slices so...we tend to get Duchy pre-packed. It's pretty good.
The one thing our excellent organic butchers are having trouble sourcing locally is ham. I think there is a shortage of good British pork at present because we are the only EC country properly implementing the Pig Welfare Directive, and giving these clever, funny beasts a decent standard of living before they are turned into pork
