So... What are the best mince pies?

.. and i don't mean the crappy standard ones. i mean the finest ones ever. i was always partial to tesco 'finest' and sainsbury 'taste the diff' but someone last year recommended the next step up on the posh scale to 'Duchy Originals' which i've bought but haven't tucked into yet.

which are the very very best in your opinions?

Had to see why this thread was so long...PMSL!

You bunch of nutters

Mind you, it's like porn to me - a mince pie of almost any quality would be wonderful right now, but stupid gestational diabetes won't allow

DC, you're doing a sterling job. Keep up the good work that man!

FrenchKissUnderMistletoeGirl · 25/11/2005 13:30

hunker, in some cases mincepies are involved in porn apparently.......
while searching for mincepies on french google, came across a site about bjs and mincepies. couldn't face looking at it though

would have put me off mince pies for ever

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 25/11/2005 13:40

.. now could you (i don't mean you personally!) combine the two?!

lol DC, calm down, obviously you are going through sugar rush!

I personally could never combine the two, think of the crumb problem!!!!

Rainbow walks in with today's confession...

WalkinginaRainbowWonderland · 25/11/2005 14:54

My confession is... I had SUB STANDARD mince pies last night! (Bought by dh, not my choice...)

Sainsburys shallow mince pies.

Complaints:

Not a proper box, just cellophane wrapping
Shck horror on opening - only 5 in there not 6!
Rather than keep the packaging and return it to sainsburys to complain (and let's face it who'd believe me that there was genuinely one missing and I hadn't just eaten it and been one of those moaning minny professional complainer types for the hell of it)
I of course ate them! Of the 5, dh had 2 - I had the rest (well, when they're shallow you can eat greater quantities "can't you?") and I had remaining 3

OK really but a bit crumbly.

Still, since he got two packets, just tucking int the start of the next pack now, phew, sigh of relief, there was a full complement of 6 in the packet this time...

Mmmmmmmm eating now as I type

mummyhill · 25/11/2005 22:23

Have ordered mother to collect some from costco for me to sample as she reckons theirs are quite nice. How TF she knows is beyond me as she has a pathological hatred of anything containing dried fruit. Have some asda standard one and kipplings to try but will have to finish the pack of 6 deep filled brandy ones from asda(quite nice but not as good as greggs). Question how many different types of mince pie have asda got? So far I have found the standard box, the deep filled ones, the extra special ones and I am sure there must be some smart price ones out there ready to contaminate the food chain.
