So... What are the best mince pies?

.. and i don't mean the crappy standard ones. i mean the finest ones ever. i was always partial to tesco 'finest' and sainsbury 'taste the diff' but someone last year recommended the next step up on the posh scale to 'Duchy Originals' which i've bought but haven't tucked into yet.

which are the very very best in your opinions?

they have loads...smart price yes, ojk with custard as a cheap quick pudding!!!
Costco's are flat I think I like a deeper bought pie! who am I kidding...I will eat them all!!!

it'll be a quiet weekend from me. i can't try the waitrose and m&s ones until monday when the guys from work bring them in.

Not sure if this has already been said but Fortnum & Mason's are absolutely GORGEOUS. I don't really like them but they are out of this world...yummy, yummy.

No conclusion yet there are so many different ones to sample. This time of year is no good for my figure.

Okay, so homemade ones best, but you can't be bothered to make them...... so you find your nearest Christmas fayre/school sale etc, and bingo, buy ones somebody else home-made!

I failed I had samosas instead!!!

Tried Icelands today. Verdict although the pastry was quite nice more filling was required thank you very much. one of the stingiest (sp) on filling I have tried so far.

Have to agree on the poor quality of the kippling pies MIL served dome up to day and I was most disappointed.

Can't believe the length of this thread and it's not even December yet. You get gut-rot if you eat mince-pies before December and Santa won't bring you any pressies. Once in December, every mince pie you eat gives you a happy day in the new year. Bet you didn't know that, did you, DC - it's Northern!

I like the ones with iced tops - but my Mum's home-made are the best of all.

The waitrose pies have arrived but the M&S ones will arrive tomorrow. It's a bit early for mince pies so i'll probably be tucking in around 10 or 10:30.
