So... What are the best mince pies?

.. and i don't mean the crappy standard ones. i mean the finest ones ever. i was always partial to tesco 'finest' and sainsbury 'taste the diff' but someone last year recommended the next step up on the posh scale to 'Duchy Originals' which i've bought but haven't tucked into yet.

which are the very very best in your opinions?

you may be missing a treat bog standard might be good. Posh ones could just be the same better packaged to rip off you pie snobs!! ;)

Well this week I was forced by Ocado deficiencies to try and Waitrose bog standard and the difference is immence. The pastry was quite thick and stodgy, not the light crumbly shortbready stuff you get with the all butter babes so DCNAYN is right to stick ONLY to luxury in tis taste test. Also M&S's bog standard were well below par as well so the general rule of thumb for bog standard pies is just don't go there, talk to the hand etc etc...

The annual availability of mincepies (whilst ever increasing as Xmas starts earlier and earlier in our shops) is too short a window to compromise I think.

I was rather disappointed with the Waitrose All Butter mince pies. I've not mnaged to get any Tesco's Finest this year for a direct comparison but I think their pastry is superior. The Waitrose filling is very nice though.

you're on crack soupy. the waitrose ones are waaaaayyy better than the tesco ones.

and before you say it... personal taste my arse. the only personal taste that should be considered is mine.

nope. sainsbagger taste the diff are a bit crap. too sweet and a bit cheap. some peasant I work with brought in Mr. Kipling yesterday. they were bogging.

My Waitrose have sold out of the full sized All Butter pies. Only mini ones left.
