blimey aren't you organised. I usually decide about an hour before every teatime.

milward · 06/11/2005 19:50

my kids like pasta, with tomato sauce & peas & carrots with grated cheese.

MummyJules · 06/11/2005 19:52

Lol well I do an internet shop as I don't have a car and there are no good local shops anywhere on bus route plus I am really busy in the days so just don't have time to trek all the way to town every day!

Just need rough ideas really.... but my brain is fogged up with too much other stuff! + I can't be bothered to go digging about in recipe books!

Unfortunately I'm a bit sad and I do plan my dd's meals for the week.

So far:
chicken, veg & potato
Salmon, asparagus & sweet potato
Spag bog
Cauliflower and cheese sauce with potato
chicken again with butternut squash and veg
something eggy - can't think of what to do with egg!

PeachyClair · 06/11/2005 20:20

We plan too, as there's nothing but a spar in the village, and we go shopping once a week. Can't afford waste, either.

Got pork chops with honey and mustard sauce, seafood chilli (tried some at Uni and want to replicate as was yum), minted lamb chops and cous cous, hopefully chilli and lime tuna if we go to Asda, always a roast but not necessarily Sunday (chicken usually), pasta with tomato sauce, maybe a salad.

HRHQoQ · 06/11/2005 20:21

OK tonight was homemade pizza (but I cheated and bought shop garlic bread)

Rest of the week (so far)

Baked Bean Lasagne
Sausages, Mash, Beans, Tomatoes, Mushrooms etc etc
Homemade beef burgers
Macaroni Cheese

pepsi · 06/11/2005 20:25

Leftover roast chicken for tommorrow
aussie pie/veg from the Dinner lady cook book, lamb cobbler/veg
cauliflower chips/pots/veg.
out for tea on Friday
Got some salmon fillets in freezer and a whole chicken so that will do for the weekend. Will probably oven cook salmon and serve with pasta/chives/sweetcorn all mixed together with cream, served with more veg. Puddings will either be fruit or yoghurt. Have leftover iced apple sponge for tommorrows pud.

pepsi · 06/11/2005 20:28

Should say I got the Dinner lady cookbook by Jeannette Orrey yesterday and it looks great. It really suits our family and its the first time Ive ever had a cookbook that Ive flicked through and thought we could have and like everything in it. Just tried searching for a thread on this book as Im sure there must be one but nothing came up. Anyone else got it?

HRHQoQ · 06/11/2005 20:28

pepsi - it's one that Rickman told me about back in August when things first got very tight here it is

"Fry an onion, add tin baked beans, tin tomatoes, herbs, mushrooms. Layer up in a dish with lasagne. Top with pot of cottage cheese mixed with a bit of natural yoghurt or mayonnaise and sprinkle some grated cheese on the top. Cook until pasta is soft.

I've added other bits and pieces that I might have laying around just to use things up - peppers, sausages etc, whatever you fancy."

callaird · 06/11/2005 20:57

The boys this week are having

Mon - Lunch - Lasagna. Tea - Eggy bread (and ketchup!)
Tues - Lunch - Veg and Pesto risotto. Tea - Sausage and beans with bread and butter.
Wed - Lunch - Fishermans pie (with cod and Prawns as J loves them). Tea - Spicy bean burgers and corn on the cob.
Thurs - Lunch - Homemade pasta and veg bake.
Tea - Homemade pizza (which the boys top themselves with whatever they want (within reason of course) & garlic bread.
Fri - Lunch - Chicken and coconut curry with rice. Tea - Homemade soup (Minestrone) with bread and butter or croutons if I have time to make them.

They usually have yoghurts and/or fruit for pudding, but occasionally I'll make them a "proper" pudd, this week it'll be lemon surprise sponge (the sponge seperates to leave a lemony custard at the bottom) or bread and butter pudding, made with leftover croissants.

I think you're all telling great big fibs, and have carefully searched copies of Good Housekeeping for labour intensive sounding recipes with lots of ingredients.

Bet you all eat mince 'n' taters with tinned peas really. And chippy chips on a Friday.

Either that or me and everyone I know is a slattern, cos nobody I know puts so much effort into tea!

Shazzler · 06/11/2005 21:35

Just re-read question.

I haven't a clue what we are having this week - my list was for last week .

I don't usually know until about 4 o'clock.

Blossomhill · 06/11/2005 21:53

Monday - pasticcio

Tuesday - fish pie

Wednesday - Baked bean lasagna (thanks whoever mentioned that!)

Thursday - veggie beanburgers and home made coleslaw

Friday - pork meatballs and spaghetti

Saturday - curry take away

This is all subject to change depending on day I have. Always have a quick alternative if I can't be bothered or too stressed to cook

munz · 07/11/2005 09:29

tues - beef casserole, veg, pots

fri - DH nights - steak (maybe)

how do u guys make ur dinners so nice? do u work? do u have huge food bills?

ThomCat · 07/11/2005 11:35

I get in at 7pm every night so yes I Work out of the home.

Costs / time:

Mon - lemon sole with sundried tomato / creme faiche dressing and salad

This is fish I had left over from a dinner party meal and froze. Still have the sundried tom paste, all I had to buy was the creme fraich and the french dressing and a bag of salad.
Takes a few mins to cook fish, a few seconds to make dressing and that's it done

Tues - Lamb with roasted red (special taste the difference ones), yelllow & orange peppers & roasted sweet potato and red onion

Lamb costs about £4 for 4 steaks and a few peppers cost tuppance really, same with sweet pot.
Roasted veg will take a while to cook but prep - no time at all really

Wed - Fry up - bacon, sausages, tomatos, mushroom, beans & chips

Costs and time spk for themselves on this.

Thurs - I don't get in till late after my antenatal yoga so we'll have - mozzerella, tomato, avocado and fresh basil with pizza express dough balls

No time and minimum costs really, mozzeralla most expensive thing there.

Fri - ? leave that one open. If D home we'll have steak and saute potatoes if he's out I'll have fesh pasta with aubergine & feta cheese and a fresh tomato sauce

Steak expensive but no majorly and time - saute potatoes are slightly time consuming, but so worth it!

D and I hardly ever eat ready made meals but have doiscovered the joy of the ready made curry from Sainsburys so they are allowed now and then and we just have always, always eaten this way, have meals like beans on toast about once a year! Breakfast yes, but not for dinner. Perhaps we should do a bit more of that and I'm sure we'd save a fortune, but not sure how happy I'd be, we love our food.

Gobbledigook · 07/11/2005 11:37

For dh and I:

Monday - meat/bolognese pasta bake (we had this last week and I made enough sauce for 2 meals so I've just got the sauce out of the freezer)

Tuesday - chicken (and bacon) caesar salad

Wednesday - brocolli and ham pasta bake

Thursday - Cod, home made chips and peas

Friday - Lasagne

Saturday - corned beef hash

Sunday - roast

All our weekday meals are ones I can do quickly or prepare earlier in the day as I am a SAHM but work freelance and this week I'm snowed which means I'm working every evening this week in the office.

moondog · 07/11/2005 11:39

Sandwiches,sandwiches and more sandwiches.
Just been on holiday and omg, never want to see food again.

NomDePlume · 07/11/2005 11:40

TC, can I come over to your place for tea ? All of that sounds delicious !

Gobbledigook · 07/11/2005 11:40

If I'm feeling lazy or knackered, one of those might be substituted for chippy tea!

MummyJules · 07/11/2005 11:48
