I wondered what other people's idea of nightmare food was. What would trigger your gag reflex if you tried to eat it? Particularly everyday sort of stuff. I could not eat, if you offered me a thousand quid, egg white or cottage cheese. I can do meringue, and scrambled egg as long as you can't see the white, but if I have poached/boiled/fried egg, have to cut every bit of white off. Friends say I'm weird.

Biscuit base- I could eat it if paid, but really don't like it. It is almost a phobia because it made me very ill once. I love stuff like cheesecake, which often has a biscuit base, but always leave the base. I don't mind digestive biscuits whole though.

One think that truly makes me vom is anything with a liquorish, fennel or aniseed flavour. That actually makes me hurl as a reflex.

Have tried tripe - it was a HUGE bowlful following soup and an entrée in a working man's lunch. It tastes a bit like breast of lamb, but the smell is totally revolting. I only managed about a third of it - wanted to leave room for cheese and desert Grin

I can eat pigs' trotters, pieds et paquets (sheep's feet), most sorts of shellfish and fish, liver, rabbit, kidneys and tongue, but

not keen on octopus -rubbery if overcooked
uncooked egg white in boiled egg - buerk
have a problem with 'solid' meat in sandwhiches so prefer boiled ham to roast
prefer whites and yolks separate as in boiled, coddled, poached and fried
never had heart of any sort that was edible
not keen on frogs' legs - maybe it's the texture - they seem to have a tough skin

but the worst by far - osso bucco - cooked marrow-bones - sort of slimy snotty greasy jelly

Have yet to try:
steak tartare
'properly cooked' (according to a friend) frogs' legs
eating either andouille or andouillette cold (sausage from pigs' intestines)

tb, yy my grandmother used to buy unbleached tripe to boil up for one of her dogs and the smell was truly horrific.

Tomato soup.
Milk.
Meat.

Smoked fish.
Tinned mac cheese/spaghetti hoops & anything of that ilk, apart from baked beans.
Tapioca/milk puddings/blamange.

Mayonnaise,unless it's flavoured with something that has a stronger taste,e.g garlic, then I can take a tiny bit of it.
Raw tomatoes. Last time I tried a bite of raw tomato my tongue immediately pushed it out of my mouth.It wasn't a voluntary action, it just happened. I've such a strong aversion to their texture.

my MIL does moist scrambled eggs too bessy, i can get them down, but there's something not right about them.

feck that's an awfy big list for someone who doesn't think they're fussy. Blush

Nothing. I'm a grown up who is not allergic/sensitive to anything.

So if it was a choice between upsetting someone who had cooked me a meal and eating something I'd eat it.

The only think that I can think of is a glass of milk. I can have flavoured milk or milk on cereal. I trace it back to the warm milk we were given at school.

Other than that I will eat anything and everything. I do have a gag reflex problem but that it is to with dentists and brushing my teeth.

Personally I'd be more upset,as a host,if my guests felt that they had to choke down food that they despised,in an attempt to protect my feelings.

I'd much rather that they didn't force down the items they hated,and had a good time,without any pressure.

The jelly in pork pies/savoury jelly layers on stuff
The fat on meats
Sugar on plain breakfast cereal + milk ie. sugared milk on cornflakes, krispies etc (also sugar in tea/coffee/hot milk).
