Foods you can't BEAR to put in your mouth

I wondered what other people's idea of nightmare food was. What would trigger your gag reflex if you tried to eat it? Particularly everyday sort of stuff. I could not eat, if you offered me a thousand quid, egg white or cottage cheese. I can do meringue, and scrambled egg as long as you can't see the white, but if I have poached/boiled/fried egg, have to cut every bit of white off. Friends say I'm weird.

I will try most things. But not tripe. Can't even look at it.
Ditto any seafood which is chewy and rubbery.

oysters or any seafood actually.

Just all look like alien lifeforms to me

And any offal like kidney, liver, tripe etc

thecatatemygymsuit · 10/04/2011 19:12

Offal
Root vegetables (too sweet)
anything mint/peppermint flavoured
marzipan
nuts/fruit with meat - esp cranberry sauce.
I don't even think I'm a particularly fussy eater Shock

turdass · 10/04/2011 19:18

marmite
avocadoes
goat's cheese

forehead · 10/04/2011 19:19

Cucumber, even the smell makes me gag.

zanz1bar · 10/04/2011 19:21

The froth off a cup of coffee, it's a texture thing, makes my teeth itch.

And of course Brussel sprouts.

omnishambles · 10/04/2011 19:21

baked beans or kidney beans
semolina
soft centred chocolates

Jellykat · 10/04/2011 19:21

Rice pudding

I can't even smell or look at it - a 'phobia' left over from school dinner days.

JuicyOlive · 10/04/2011 19:34

The skin that forms on hot milk.

PatTheHammer · 10/04/2011 19:38

Oh yes, forgot about marzipan, how grim!

Eurgh, and bounties are rough. Although I like dark choc and I like coconut but just definitrly not together.

Never had tripe, don't think I'll bother though, and lol at sausages made from thumbsGrin

omnishambles · 10/04/2011 19:40

at milk skin

JenniL1977 · 10/04/2011 19:43

Cheese - unless it's melted. Hate the texture. It's spongy..
Bananas. Think that's the same thing.

Easterfeaster · 10/04/2011 19:43

Tripe. Revolting texture.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 10/04/2011 19:43

Seafood
Offal

Yes I'm fussy Grin

Ambi · 10/04/2011 19:44

Liver, squid / octopus, cottage cheese, mustard.

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 10/04/2011 19:46

mine have mostly been mentioned (jelly , oysters )

but i really cannot bear to bite into a whole tomato and think salad cream is the work of the devil

and courgette is rank too, but i can eat that

Alouiseg · 10/04/2011 19:48

Lamb except for teeny tiny lean cutlets. Anything else makes me want to barf.

JollySergeantJackrum · 10/04/2011 19:50

Eggs. Including scrambled or omelettes, but I can eat eggy bread provided it's properly cooked. I also have no problem with cake :o

Normally bananas make me gag, but during pregnancy I've really enjoyed them. Still don't think I could eat a green-ish one though, they have to be ripe.

Squid or octopus, things with suckers. Yuck yuck yuck. Don't like scallops either.

FriedEggyAndSlippery · 10/04/2011 19:53

I have some foods that I refused to try until a few years ago:
Parsnip
Sweet potato
Mushroom
Avocado

But I just decided to try and 'get over it' basically because I was weaning my first baby and thought it was unfair to purée all these different foods without eating them myself. Now I love them, especially sweet potato.

However the following things will not enter my mouth:

Celeriac - the smell is just horrible
Red wine (don't like White either but I would have champagne etc occasionally)
Coffee
Black pudding just because of what's in it euwwww!

FriedEggyAndSlippery · 10/04/2011 19:54

Oh yeah, big prawns - don't mind the little ones mixed into stuff but can't stand the look of the bigguns with their beady eyes! Not too keen on any seafood tbh, I'll stick with fish thanks :)

marriednotdead · 10/04/2011 20:04

So many listed here that I also detest.

Mushrooms- it's the texture. Biting into it reminds me of the squish when my ears were pierced for some reason Blush

Most shellfish, although I can just about cope with prawns.

Any offal except liver.

Cod roe

And there's something about the metal of the cutlery that was around when we were kids- not the stainless steel stuff- it's like nails down a blackboard. Rather eat with my hands than use it.

Glad I'm not the only one with ishoos though Grin
