Foods you can't BEAR to put in your mouth

I wondered what other people's idea of nightmare food was. What would trigger your gag reflex if you tried to eat it? Particularly everyday sort of stuff. I could not eat, if you offered me a thousand quid, egg white or cottage cheese. I can do meringue, and scrambled egg as long as you can't see the white, but if I have poached/boiled/fried egg, have to cut every bit of white off. Friends say I'm weird.

Parsnips.

DivineInspiration · 10/04/2011 18:10

Cauliflower. It is just awful. And cucumber, which has the look, texture and taste of dead toads.

Pork - I suppose it's a Jewish thing. The thought of it makes me heave a little. I'm veggie so don't eat any meat, but no other meat actually makes me feel repulsed when I think about it.

Cattleprod · 10/04/2011 18:11

Celery and rice pudding.

Anybody able to enjoy celery must have completely different taste buds to me!!

PatTheHammer · 10/04/2011 18:11

Can't think of anything apart from Liver and possibly sandwich spread (yes I grew up in the 80's!)

Have to say, I have always loved Rollmops though LisMcA, yum-yum!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 10/04/2011 18:11

Hard boiled egg, egg mayo, scrambled egg, pickled egg. You get the picture!
Frozen mixed vegetables especially with corrugated carrot.
Sweetcorn.
Milk desserts like semolina.
Cream cakes. Apart from eclairs.

oxocube · 10/04/2011 18:12

Gosh you lot are fussy Grin. I don't LIKE some of the above but for a thousand quid could eat most things. Raw herring with onions (a Dutch staple) and tripe might make me vom but most other things I could eat I think

PatTheHammer · 10/04/2011 18:13

I really like celery cattleprod, just love the crunchiness of it!

Why all the hate for blue cheese, and mushrooms.....are you all mad?!

TheFarSide · 10/04/2011 18:15

Agree that some people are v fussy - lots of things listed on here are my faves.

Not fond of snails though.

Littlefish · 10/04/2011 18:21

I like celery too - particularly with blue cheese spread down the middle. YUMMMMMMMMMY.

TheVisitor · 10/04/2011 18:25

Another vote for mushrooms here, in any shape or form. Tomato ketchup on fried eggs makes me retch.

topsyturner · 10/04/2011 18:29

There is very little I wouldn't eat . But for some reason I cannot abide the texture of jelly . Gloopy stuff that slides down your throat ......... bluerrrgh !

Bunbaker · 10/04/2011 18:29

"and possibly sandwich spread (yes I grew up in the 80's!)"

Sandwich spread has been around far longer than that. I ate it in the 70s. I can't understand the mushroom dislike. Perhaps it is a texture thing?

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 10/04/2011 18:30
