Has anyone seen The Odyssey film yet and what did you think

Anyone booked or been to see The Odyssey. I’m booked for Sunday. I don’t really care about the casting, as it’s a myth.
So I’m looking forward to it!

I thought he was really good in it. I don’t watch eastenders so didn’t recognise him but I like having actors that aren’t stars.

Just been (Vue cinema), loved it and, as someone usually bothered by jangly sound, found it fine. I did miss the end of a few muffled sentences and had to get DH to repeat!
I’m glad it wasn’t made as an 18 as it was violent enough for me; also the Circe scene was perfectly done and made me laugh and want to applaud her - didn’t need the men’s piggish behaviour spelled out any clearer than that.
I was confused by the screaming child and the giant metal warrior/killing machines but that’s probably me forgetting details of the story.
And Anne Hathaway’s dresses and jewellery- exquisite!

Saw it last night - I was a bit disappointed tbh. Matt Damon is just too all-American action hero - I’ve always thought of Odysseus as a wily trickster, this version of him didn’t seem particularly intelligent… and all the lighter episodes were cut out - the lotus eaters, the bag of winds, King Alcinous.. I thought the Circe episode was well done (and terrifying) but overall it was very dark - literally and metaphorically - and incredibly loud

Saw it on Sunday at an Everyman cinema. Went on my own. Loved it, Samantha Morton was stand out for me and Himesh Patel (oh crikey reading this and making the Eastenders connection 😁 whichI haven’t watched in years). It flew by for me. I got home and dug the book out to add to the bedside table pile.

The Trojan horse scene was amazing. I found some of the battle scenes hard to watch but that is a general thing now I am a bit older, finding violence harder to sit through.

I liked it - it's a tale of ambition, achievement, guilt, trust, conscience - all the usual things. The dialogue was quite quick and you really had to pay attention to it . The 3 hours kept us entertained but yes at times it was very loud.

I got dragged along by DH this afternoon and surprised myself by quite enjoying it. I really liked Anne Hathaway, I’ve seen others be negative on this thread about her but I thought she was quite majestic and pissed off.
Robert Pattinson was a great baddy.

Bring back the intermission though. Our Odeon was absolutely freezing and I could have done with a half time loo break and a warm up coffee.

I was pretty doubtful about AH as Penelope tbh. (I mean before I went). I never quite got past knowing I was watching her. But she certainly did emote anger, sorrow, pissed off-ness really well. I guess she wants to branch out from comedic fun heroine, and IMO good luck to her.

I also liked how they dealt with the Trojan Horse- not just some toy on wheels, but this immense monolith. Visually spectacular.

I looked this up after reading this and OMG hasn't he turned out well 😊

Isnt the point Telemachus is supposed to be a bit limp? Like everyone wants and needs him so much to become his father and he just can’t get there? Until the end when his father is back, and completely destroyed by his journey, proving that there are other ways to rule.

I actually liked Elliot Page and didn’t find it jarring at all.

Odysseus got off lightly, he was shagging around for most of those twenty years!!

It was ok. But OMG the soundtrack!

Some of it sounded like wood pigeons playing the drums louder and louder and faster and faster as the scene developed.

Ok get it!! You’re trying to raise the tension! But enough already.

And at the end, I had to actually put my fingers in my ears as the sound was soooooo annoying! Never done that in my life before!

And I didn’t understand the young girl at the beginning, why was she there? Until I googled the cast after the film.

i was looking at my watch regularly after about 2 hours. I will def win lots of Oscar’s though. It’s that kind of film.

Limp - that's a good word to use.

I could have sworn those soldiers said " it's a maiden" when they first saw Elliot Page with the horse. Dialogue was fast and often unclear.

Telemachus was absolutely suited to staying home and governing the island, at least, that's what Tennyson's poem suggested. O level Eng !

An intermission - oh, yes, please. I'm sure I didn't sit through 'Ben Hur' or 'Dr Zhivago', or 'Lawrence of Arabia' back in the olden days without a break for the loo and the lady who came round with the ice creams.

Went yesterday and also surprised myself by enjoying it! Of course there are some liberties taken, but the 3 hours didn't seem long and it fair ripped along.

I thought the Cyclops was really scary and well done not to turn out cartoonish, also Circe, a great performance.

Studied Ancient Greek at school, so not unfamiliar with Homer, and I've struggled with the complexities of Odysseus' character. Matt Damon was more of a soldier and less of a wily or cunning character, but I could see him as a leader who both loved and was exasperated by his crew.

I would like to see it again, so a success in that respect. Also great dog acting!

The dog was a mixture of CGI and animatronics. I liked the dog but I could tell.

Aw, the tail was just like an old dog's tail, a bit creaky, so well done that animatronic anyway...

Oh, I loved it.

I saw Facebook clip that it was several real dogs of different ages?

I tried to take my 14 yo to see it yesterday and they asked for proof of his age. We ending up not seeing it.

Of course they are excellent actors and bankable it’s all about the money but really TH AH and Zendaya are in pretty much every film now. Seems unfair when there are so many out of work actors that the same small group get all the plum roles. Getting abit tired of them now.

I often find actors are in lots of films, then go quiet for a while! Especially Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland!
I went again and emit more the second time, realised I missed bit on first viewing!

I would watch it again !
