I've just been and I loved it! It was so good.

Anewyearanewday · 15/02/2025 00:23

I am looking forward to it. Not enough to pay to see it in the cinema though.....

alwaysdeleteyourcookies · 15/02/2025 00:25

I loved it. Cried. Laughed. Looked at gorgeous Hugh Grant. Win.

Beautiful and witty man. I love his interviews.

Which is why it’s so difficult to reconcile the above with someone who had two sons born three months apart.

Meredusoleil · 15/02/2025 06:50

What happens to Bridget's husband ie how does he die?

TheaBrandt1 · 15/02/2025 06:57

Killed in Sudan during his work as a human rights barrister. You’d need a hard heart not to shed a tear.

I saw it yesterday. Not what I was expecting. It was my birthday and I was hoping for uplifting but I left crying and feeling very melancholy, I got home and felt totally drained and had an early night. Don't go if it's your birthday!

Violetparis · 15/02/2025 07:56

If you like these type of films (Richard Curtis type) then I'm sure you'll like it. I found it twee but funny, Hugh Grant is excellent. I kept getting distracted by Renee Zellwegers strange mouth pursing.

TheaBrandt1 · 15/02/2025 08:13

Also she has a very strange walk! Also enjoyed seeing Hampstead many of
our old haunts were on it

I get this, I went last night, feel hungover over today but not had a drop of alcohol.

I can't remember Daniel having a child with someone, can anyone jog my memory?

I made the mistake of going on my birthday too! Left with an emotion headache and thinking too deeply about life.

I saw it last night. I was widowed suddenly almost 12 years ago when DS was 8 and DD was almost 5. I am 12 years on and we are all doing great but this film completely floored me. I have never seen such an accurate representation of how it feels to be suddenly left on your own with two little ones….trying to cope with your own grief while supporting them with theirs, never sure if you are doing the right things and worrying that if you mess things up they will scarred for life… keeping everything going…seeing married friends who try to empathise but will never truly know how alone one feels at times. Being married to a wonderful person and feeling devastated that his children will have almost no memory of the person who loved them so much. It was spot-on but I admit it was a heartbreaking watch for me. Take tissues!!!!!!

Well said. I'm a widow four years now. And it is so true.

Ha thank goodness it wasn't just me!!

I mean the 'it's not enough to survive, you have to live' and I was howling. 47, menopausal and I hate my birthday anyway...!!!

MorrisZapp · 15/02/2025 11:40

Well I'm embarrassed. I always thought she killed Darcy off as an emotionally shabby shortcut to having a single protagonist again. I didn't realise her ex had actually died.

All the big romcom type shows and films struggle with this - how to get the relationship drama back for sequels when the audience is invested in a previous happy ending.

Killing Mr Big on a Peloton comes to mind, albeit he'd been cancelled anyway.

I absolutely loved it, I had read the book but thought they'd focus on the light more than the shade - there's a lot more of Bridget's mother's nursing 'hotel' shenanigans in the book for instance - but I really, really loved it. So sad, so true. Me and the woman next to me cried buckets.

I did read a quite snotty review that was going on about the middle-classness of it, but I think Fielding always was spot on and clear-eyed about the class of people she wrote about and it actually showed that even those with 'perfect' lives and plenty of dosh still go through grief.

letshavetea · 15/02/2025 21:44

We went to see the film on Friday. It was fantastic. The Graun did a very snippy review which I don’t agree with. It’s a very nice way to spend a couple of hours.

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 15/02/2025 21:48

Saw it this afternoon. Sobbed.

EconomyClassRockstar · 15/02/2025 21:59

I"m so glad to see so many people loved it. We did too but a lot of my friends were on SM today complaining about how awful it was. I was beginning to think they'd watched a different movie as it made me laugh and cry and I thought it was a great ending to the franchise.

MrsPeterHarris · 15/02/2025 22:11

I saw it yesterday & loved it! Laughed out loud & also cried bucket loads! The scene with her dad was my favourite but loved it all.

I'd love a spin off movie / series with her mum & friend and their care home shenanigans!

Pebbles16 · 15/02/2025 22:15

Would love to but can't afford the cinema ££s

Eeek, a few spoilers here?

I adored it but echo those who say it left them emotionally drained. It is very very moving in parts. Not exactly what I expected but wonderful all the same.
Really beautifully done with some lovely nods to the previous films.
