It was shit. Far far too long. Lots of extra songs that were really unnecessary. Eric was shit and wooden. the animals just looked weird, especially Sebastian. Halle Berry and Melissa McCarthy were both good, but I've never felt any of the live action films were as good as the animations. the magic isn't the same.

Really enjoyed it and hadn't expected to. Ruined by the group of teens talking, playing music, and on their phones while running backwards and forwards. But it's a risk now going to the theatre or cinema that you will not be able to listen quietly.
Didn't like Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.

Niftythrifter · 01/06/2023 09:35

I totally forgot about the live action Cruella film. I know it’s not a remake but I thought that was an excellent film.

Changerazelea · 01/06/2023 09:40

Just cannot bring myself to see it. First film I ever saw in a cinema and when I saw the trailor and what they have done to Flouder I was OUT

Flounder who? Grin

pinkpanther84 · 01/06/2023 15:03

We have just seen it (me, 5 year old and 8 year old) and loved it. It's my favourite of the Disney remakes

LancashireSquirrel · 01/06/2023 15:04

I haven't booked it for DC because it seemed soooo long!

pastypirate · 01/06/2023 15:08

We went last night the dds who are 13 and 10. It's terrible.
The actress who plays Ariel is lovely in every way but it's such a half arsed film.

It's produced by Lin Manuel Miranda I was expecting so much more!

It's not a patch on the live action Cinderella and Aladdin etc which my dds loved.

snoozingbaby1476 · 01/06/2023 15:08

I absolutely love the first one. It's the film of my childhood. I'm really nervous about watching the remake and it ruining it for me.

anon12093 · 01/06/2023 16:24

Hated Eric's solo but I loved Melissa McCarthy.

I quite liked the film, I think some scenes could have been a little shorter to reduce the length of the film.

Dd was a bit restless but managed the whole way through it.

Eric's solo was rubbish
Discovered recently Sebastian is actually a crab - he looks like a lobster in the og.

Films worth a watch.

Mine too
Loved it as a child still listen to songs randomly from it it is my favourite disney film of "old"
I liked hallee bailey and Melissa Mccarthy
Hated pretty much all the underwater visuals. it's just soulless, why was scuttle a gannet? Why did Sebastian look like he was a mcdonalds happy meal toy?
Entirely predictable though

QueefQueen80s · 01/06/2023 20:46

I love the original, and I LOVED this! Seen it twice. Different strokes.
The CGI is fantastic, loved Ursula and Ariel's voice gave me goosebumps.

BrilliantandSmiley · 03/06/2023 13:27

I thought it was really good, well worth a watch. I really enjoyed our little cinema trip.

CircleofWillis · 28/05/2023 06:35

Yes Halle Bailey. It pisses me off so much that people seem to think that there is only one black actress in the world. Both women are beautiful but they look completely different and Halle berry is now well into her 50s.

I think the names are just so similar - nothing to do with thinking there’s only one black woman in Hollywood 🙄

MMorales · 04/06/2023 00:55

My sister went with her son 5 and daughter 16.

They said it was too long and didnt enjoy it. 5 year old.wouldnt sit through the movie.

Went to watch Spiderman instead which was great!

BrilliantandSmiley · 04/06/2023 10:54

I can see it being too long for a 4/5/6 year old but my 9 year old liked it - preferred it to the animated version in fact.

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 04/06/2023 11:04

I found it ok. I think it's hard making deep sea look cute when it isn't a cartoon, so the shipwreck scene at the beginning and the scenes in Ariel's cave and Ursula's cave were grimey looking (which makes sense - it's deep underwater and dark and grim down there)! Also the scenes on Eric's ship were less fun looking as is probably right - big sea voyages were dangerous and not cute. So it lost some of its magic for me, but it all made sense.

I wasn't mad about Eric. Bit too cherubic for me with his wee dimples. He was also quite anweak character, but he isn't meant to be the main character so I think it's fine that he was more in the background. I liked Grimsby, the Queen, Ursula, some of the scenes with all the sister mermaids, the Under the Sea scene and I thought Halle Bailey and Melissa McArthy were great. I also liked the scene in the market by the beach. I don't know how I feel about Javier Bardem as Triton... I am somewhere between love and not sure. He is quite an intimidating figure which makes sense and I found the king in the cartoon a lot more cutesy. I really liked Scuttle. Sebastian and Flounder were alright but again it turns out that talking fish and bloody great crabs aren't that cute if they aren't cartoons 😂

DD has a little scar on her forehead and I like that they didn't airbrush Halle Bailey's forehead scar as well.

Tldr: not as cute as the cartoon - understandably

RhosynBach · 04/06/2023 11:09

I quite liked it. Dd is 7 and was quite wriggly by the end but luckily our cinema was quiet.

i thought Ariel’s singing voice was great and lived Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Flounder was awful- he didn’t seem to have much of a character (and was nowhere near as cute!)

quite liked the crab especially when he muttered to himself that he was an educated crustacean who has options

star of the show for dd was scuttle who she found absolutely hilarious

my favourite scene in the animated one is there Sebastian is trying to avoid being cooked and then he appears on the plate and Ariel has to save him. I don’t think this happens in the live one although I did go to the loo with dd so might have missed it

RagingWoke · 04/06/2023 11:18

There was no chemistry between Ariel and Eric, it all felt very awkward.

However, I did like the island scenes and the added angle of Ariel just wanting to experience everything. Under the sea was visually beautiful, but didn't have that same feel... I love Daveed Diggs (read: am obsessed with the man) but I didn't feel his charm coming through in a lot of Sebastian.

Melissa McCarthy was outstanding though. 'Poor unfortunate souls' was the high point of the movie!

I really liked it and the musical numbers. Only downside was the Prince sort of seemed embarrassed to be there. Didn't need to be English either, would have liked an American.

SavBlancTonight · 04/06/2023 11:35

I quite liked it but it was way too long, not nearly enough action, too little humour. The dc were bored. Why theybhave to make these movies well over 2 hours inwill never understand. Does no one working on the film have children?!

snoozingbaby1476 · 04/06/2023 12:29

My dd has just told me she doesn't want to see it. I'm going to have to go alone at this rate!

ladygindiva · 04/06/2023 12:42

I loved it! Halle BAILEY was fantastic I thought.

Americans don't and never have had royal families or princes.

whycantmenfindstuff · 04/06/2023 20:37

The under sea bits made my eyes go funny. With the constantly moving hair. I swear some of the edges of their faces looked blurry

They could definitely shave 30 mins off

lavagal · 04/06/2023 20:49

Saw it today with DD6 and her friend. We all loved it. Agree flounder wasn't as cute/good BUT loved Sebastian and scully and the island scenes . Yes it's different but actually the original got it wrong, it should have been more like this from the start
