For me...
Pursuit of Happiness
Elephant Man

There's definitely more but I can't think and I've had 2 gins so I'll be better thinking tomorrow.
But I just saw a clip on LinkedIn from pursuit of happiness and it made me cry just from the clip!

The Book Thief

Inside Out. Took the dc to see it when I was a single parent tying myself in knots trying to make everything ok for them after a dreadful break up. I was fine in the cinema. Then had to pull over on the way home as I was wracked with sobs for about 15 minutes. Scared them half to death!

Brief Encounter, the music and Laura agonizing over what she is doing.
The end....this pain can't last..

Shitfather · 19/02/2023 22:47

Watched The Son at the cinema today. Had me sobbing. It was about the long-term impact of divorce on a teen’s mental health. Shook me to my core due my own divorce. You never quite know what kids carry within them.

Manchester By The Sea. Most films are about people overcoming traumas but that was about someone never overcoming one. It seemed so honest and accurate in comparison with most stories.

Lion - i actually got through about four packets of tissues all of which were soaking wet by the end of that film.

I sympathise with that sudden reaction in front of DC.

I couldn't control my sobs at the first 20 minutes of Up! in the cinema with two very very young DC. Had lost a baby before they came along and for many years thought DH and i couldn't have children after that. My lovely DC each took my hand in the darkness to comfort me. I felt so ashamed but it just hit me.

All from when I was a lot younger :

Kramer vs Kramer
The Last Snows of Spring
The Way We Were
Love Story

Every Lassie movie and of course Bambi

They seem to have hardened me as I rarely cry at films now

Savior (1998) starring Denis Quaid & Nastassja Kinski

There is one scene in particular "Come on... breathe" which leaves my heart on the floor every time.

Still Life with Eddie Marsan ( 2013).
Was in pieces at the end.

Agree re MBTS - excellent description. Helped me to see how others never recover from the loss of a child.

Titanic - Yes! It's always makes me cry no matter how many time I watch it.

12 years a slave
Green Mile

edithjc · 22/02/2023 05:35

Schindler's List comes to my mind right now. Particularly that scene - I could've saved one more.

EmbracingTheEyeBags · 21/04/2023 21:29

Netflix has gone shit. I've just sat for a good half an hour and searched for a lot of these recommendations but no luck 👎

8roses · 24/04/2023 14:18

Marley and Me - never watching that again !

user1497207191 · 25/04/2023 23:59

Xanadu - the first time I actually watched it was a shortly after Olivia’s death, so I cried more about her death than the film itself!

Eightiesgirl · 26/04/2023 00:06

The light between oceans.

Horsedoglover59 · 26/04/2023 04:27

A Star Is Born - Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper - loved it, and watch it often, but it leaves my heart in pieces.
And Terms of Endearment.

Childrenofthestones · 27/04/2023 12:20

Grave of the Fireflies and Empire of the Sun, the scene where young Jim realises he cant remember what his parents look like.

Shitfather · 07/05/2023 04:02

Evelyn on Netflix.

I cried reading the book and at both versions of the film.

3luckystars · 31/05/2023 19:43

Sorry for posting on an older thread but I’m really looking for a good film to watch. Something happened and I have been unable to cry, I think it might do me good.
Billy Elliot made me cry, I loved that. I am going to go through this list now and find something like that.

Kdramafan · 01/06/2023 20:51

Watch Korean drama boys over flowers that definitely makes me cry every time I watch it
