The type that doesn't sound great in its synopsis but turned out to be brilliantly entertaining, moving, hysterical. It's probably British. Definitely understated.

I'll offer Marvellous with Toby Jones

Not sure it's quirky, but really enjoyed Causeway with Jennifer Lawrence. A very quiet, understated, gently hopeful film about trauma, friendship and families. Recommend.

Nowhere Special with James Norton.

A fabulous film

@LadyEloise1 beautiful recommendation. My partner and I watched this last weekend. Top tip is not to wear mascara whilst watching it. Bawled my eyes out!!!

I'm so glad you "enjoyed" it.
How it slipped under the radar I'll never know.
It was released during Covid.
I just want more people to know about it.
I know it's sentimental and some people will scoff but it no doubt is something that happens, sadly, too often.
The wee boy was so gorgeous and as for James Norton - off the scale acting.
His accent was super too.
He is a very versatile actor.
He can play the son of an uber rich Russia Mafia, the awful Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley or a Northern Irish window cleaner to perfection.

Still Life, with actor Eddie Marsan

Yes, I watched this a couple of months ago. I found it mesmerising - exactly what I meant a quirky gem.

I like Fried Green Tomatoes At the Whistle Stop Cafe. But it is for adults.

Oh yes, that is in fact, my favourite film.

It was advertised a lot at one point, I've not watched it as it looked too sad!
Maybe I should give it a go

Very Annie Mary is great and I’ve just watched Mrs Palfry at the Clairemont which was easy watching.
I’ve also just watched Good Luck to you Leo Grande on Netflix which wasn’t a film you’d usually associate with Emma Thompson - I’ll leave it there……

Northern Comfort on Netflix. A group who share a fear of flying travel to Iceland to conquer their fears. Several LOL moments. A good mid-week watch.

I saw The Lobster yesterday and it was amazing, the most thought provoking film I've seen in a long time.

It looks at how society views single people and the obsession with finding the right person. Very good!

I saw a lovely film in Prime last week. Then Came You... Kathie Gifford and the gorgeous Craig Ferguson. Liz Hurley and Phyllida Law have small roles. A real feel good film.

Watched Emily the criminal last night, really enjoyed it. Worth a look.!

I just watched Living on Prime. Lovely little film with Bill Nighy. He does do exceptionally good films.

testingmitb · 14/04/2024 09:47

We watched a film called 'I give it a year' which was full of British actors. It was an absolute hoot. The scene with the digital photo frame had us both crying with laughter.

Sheerheight · 14/04/2024 09:57

Rewatching Bright Young Things . V good.

It must be about 30 years old, loads of well known actors in it looking incredibly young. James McAvoy, Michael Sheen and lots more.

LadyEloise1 · 14/04/2024 13:37

That lovely film Nowhere Special with James Norton ( Tommy Lee Royce ) is on BBC 2 at 11.15 pm Monday night.
Totally different character to Tommy Lee Royce.
He's a very versatile actor and sooo good looking.

Dearg · 14/04/2024 13:45

Love is all you need (2012) with Pierce Brosnan - gentle humour British/ Danish.

Made in Italy - Liam Neeson.

Lillipops · 14/04/2024 16:39

Just watched Wicked Little Letters its brilliant 🤩

LadyEloise1 · 14/04/2024 18:15

A bit of an Irish bias there @Dearg 😀

Dearg · 14/04/2024 20:56

@LadyEloise1 Maybe, but I am East coast Scottish to my core😂 more on an Italy bias if you watch them
