The type that doesn't sound great in its synopsis but turned out to be brilliantly entertaining, moving, hysterical. It's probably British. Definitely understated.

I'll offer Marvellous with Toby Jones

Watched Mike Bassett, England Manager recently.

Very funny and I'm not a football fan . Can't believe I've never seen it before as its 20yrs old. Ricky Tomlinson is brilliant. On amazon prime.

Sparkle with Stockard Channing, Lesley Manville and Bob Hoskins.

Educating Rita - working class Rita (Julie Walters) juxtaposed against a very erudite Frank (Michael Caine) was very charming to watch.
Return to Dust - Utterly beautiful but sad Chinese movie. Stayed with me. Currently in indie cinemas.
Drive my Car - Japanese film based on Murakami’s short story.

If you like a bit of gory horror comedy then I totally recommend Repo - A Genetic Opera, all star cast including a leading role by Anthony Head. It is gory, but every actor in it is perfect for their part, even Paris Hilton.

'The Station Agent' with a pre G.O.T. Peter Dinklage

Jim Cummings Thunder Road which he wrote, directed and is the lead in is brilliant. Is quirky, funny, everything in it. He is also very easy on the eye which is a bonus. Love this movie.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 02/01/2023 07:03

Also Little Miss Sunshine, a great movie and very funny and quirky and will make you laugh and cry.

SerendipityJane · 02/01/2023 11:00

"Miracle Mile"

Or for these gender bending times, "Orlando" ?

Niftythrifter · 02/01/2023 20:13

Elvis and Annabelle. Not British but a quirky film with a good cast. Main characters are played by Max Mingella and Blake Lively.

VisaGeezer · 05/01/2023 18:29

Stranger Than Fiction.

Born to Run

Proper feel good rites of passage/ coming of age film about a 1st generation British Pakistani boy growing up in Britain in the 1980s, cultural conflicts, racism and his love of The Boss.

ScribblingPixie · 07/01/2023 18:05

Is that not Blinded by the Light, Sarfraz Mazoor's film, @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads? Or are there two similar films? I loved it, and the book.
