I have to say, I wish I'd never watched The Shining (at a sleepover when I was 14). It scared the pants off me!

Anyone else?

OP posts:
eternalopt · 29/08/2016 22:04

The happening. Sooooo bad. My husband still hasn't forgiven me for choosing it!

lcoc2015 · 29/08/2016 22:06

Requiem for a dream - utterly bleak and final scenes at the frat oarty are burned into my brain for ever and make me feel sick

lcoc2015 · 29/08/2016 22:18

Bloody hell just wikipedia'd a serbian film and read it and now i feel ill. I just dont have the stomach for this stuff anymore!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 29/08/2016 22:20

Lucy - a couple of hours of my life I will never get back, truly the worst film I have ever watched

annandale · 29/08/2016 22:20

The Vanishing. The only horror film I have ever watched, has now affected my sleep for 20 years though it's finally getting better.

Really amazed that people are reading this thread and deciding Eden Lake sounds like just their sort of thing Confused

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/08/2016 22:22

Just watched Eden lake.

Shit

There's something wrong with me I didn't flinch at all Grin

Bambambini · 29/08/2016 22:30

Eden Lake
The Mist
Se7en - all good movies but just too bleak.

Couples Retreat
Something About Mary
In the Name Of The King
Baron Munchauson - all awful

Creatureofthenight · 29/08/2016 22:33
  1. Bag of shite.
gingerboy1912 · 29/08/2016 22:37

That part at the end where she realises which house she's in literally makes my stomach turn 😩😩 can you actually imagine what you'd do in that situation.

^^ this
Came on here to say Eden lake I just couldn't watch the whole film through.

Also human centipede
Precious

Brandonstarkflakes · 29/08/2016 22:38

The ending of the boy in the striped pyjamas really pissed me off.

Loadashite.

digestivemuncher · 29/08/2016 22:44

Brandon I actually liked the ending to the boy in striped pjs it made me cry like hell!!

Middleoftheroad · 29/08/2016 22:54

Watched Eden Lake tonight and found it teally frustrating, mainly!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/08/2016 22:58

^ why Brandon? That's how the book ended iirc.

Oh...my sister's keeper. Changed the ending entirely. ( Ending Spoiler in the book, they end up grieving the sister who was well but had a car accident and so ends up being the kidney donor for their first daughter. In the film, their first daughter dies of renal failure).

Should have posted here instead of starting a new thread!!

HappyAxolotl · 29/08/2016 23:02

Kimmy - I was just about to say My Sister's Keeper! They destroyed the ending, barely included Campbell, Julia(?) and the tearaway brother, and the mother came across as a bit of a bitch rather than the book's mother torn to pieces trying to do right for all her family.

Willowfrost · 29/08/2016 23:03

Human Centipede!! Still can't get over that film, vile.

therealsquireofwideacre · 29/08/2016 23:07

David Brent: Life on the Road
Utterly awful with no redeeming moments.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/08/2016 23:11

Yes Happy - it ruined it entirely. Went against Picoult's wishes but having sold the rights, nothing she could do about it.
Have read a few of her books, tis court drama/ethics lite, liked Keeping Faith, but her books do become samey after a while. DH went through a phase of saying What would you do Jodi Picoult? Grin whenever I was deliberating anything, even trivial shite like sarnie fillings
the bastard

user1471449040 · 29/08/2016 23:13

Saving Private Ryan

pieceofpurplesky · 29/08/2016 23:18

Pet cemetery.
It came back to haunt me on a gorgeous camp site that happened to be next to a real pet cemetery. Didn't sleep for a week

mistyegg · 29/08/2016 23:21

The Prince of Tides. I'd read the book first as a teenager then watched the film a few years later and I was gutted by the awful adaptation.

yougottheshining · 29/08/2016 23:25

See, I can sit through most of the horror films on here - a couple I haven't seen yet, but I'm sure I'll get round to them, and I'll be a bit screwed up in a good way a bit afterwards but otherwise it will be fine. But there are a couple of films that I wish I'd never seen or at least that they had been horrors, just so that I could watch the main characters meet an awful death with their heads getting all mashed and them going 'woargh' and being all stabbed and stuff. And they include: You've Got Mail; Forest Gump; pretty much everything else with Tom Hanks in including Saving Private Ryan which is just Disney Does WWII (and also shite); Swingers; Lawnmower Man; When Harry Met Sally; Snakeyes.

Hateloggingin · 29/08/2016 23:37

Anyone who did enjoy Eden lake might also enjoy one called 'mum and dad'...not similar stories but the real grittiness of both makes me put them together. As Pp said maybe because UK (?) made so not clearly actresses being terrified while having perfect hair/make up.

KittyKrap · 30/08/2016 00:02

Just watched Eden Lake due to the non recommendations here! It was ok but I'm pretty hardcore where horror is concerned. I would never watch A Serbian Film though, ever.

We watched The Colony last night with Emma Watson, it's 90% true so we were up reading into Chilean history and the facts afterwards, awful.

KittyKrap · 30/08/2016 00:05

It was about a married couple that stop at a hotel unexpectedly for a night. When they get in they watch some videos that are provided and realise that it's of people being killed in their hotel room. The killers them come in and try and get them. I can't really remember the ending (maybe I didn't finish watching it) does anyone know what the name of the film was?*

Motel with Kate Beckinsdale?

And thumbs up to the person who mentioned The Vanishing (the golden egg), the original French/Belgium version. It was in my dreams for years, really disturbing. I watched it recently and it wasn't 'as' bad (scary) as I remembered.
