  1. Annie

Worst ever IMO. Utterly charmless compared to the original. Totally pointless as well.

The original is so lovely, charming, with amazing stars.

OP posts:

I've heard that but Roald Dahl wrote the screen play.
He wanted Spike Milligan for Willy wonka.

I think Depp's portrayl would have been much more up his street.

The whole dentist subplot and the fact Depp acts nothing like Wonka in the book would lead me to think otherwise.

KatherineMumsnet · 02/09/2015 14:13

With the OP's kind permission, we are going to move this rather excellent thread over to Films.

Thanks Flowers

The Avengers with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman - words fail me at how excruciatingly awful it was.

The Wicker Man - Ellen Burstyn, what were you thinking???

The Fantastic Four (the recent one). Honestly, was Ioan Gryffedd not enough?

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 02/09/2015 15:01

Haven't RTFT but the Omen and Wicker Man remakes were both abominations of epic proportions. DH has never got over them remaking Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 02/09/2015 15:04

They are remaking An American Werewolf in London???? Just NO! I love that film. Leave it alone.

ButtonMoon88 · 02/09/2015 15:05

Alfie and The Italian Job, no one is going to do it better than Michael Caine!

BlackNoSugar · 02/09/2015 19:01

An American Werewolf in London is a classic. The effects are crap by today's standards but at the time were amazingly advanced, the whole film is a great mix of horror and comedy, and it stands the test of time pretty well. A remake would be a disaster Sad.

MrsFruitcake · 02/09/2015 19:04

I'm really sorry, but I quite liked the new Annie. Blush

GrannyAch1ng · 02/09/2015 19:30

The Return of Martin Guerre Arrrrrgggggghhhhhhh! Somersby flashback.

Second date with DH, we bonded over our hatred of Somersby and Forever Young (first date).

JoffreyBaratheon · 02/09/2015 20:24

The Wicker Man.

Just totally, utterly missed the point, the plot and every other thing about the original.

Taytocrisps · 02/09/2015 20:32

The Parent Trap

kiwimumof2boys · 03/09/2015 08:22

Don'tStop Yes! Rik Mayall is totally Fred.I love that movie - even if it is a bit dated . .. but please no remake! no one could ever replace Rik.

Simurgh · 03/09/2015 16:15

I'd have to nominate Born Yesterday. The incomparably gorgeous and feisty Judy Holliday from the 1950 Cukor film is replaced by a whiny Melanie Griffith. (I'm sure there were other actors in the remake but I turned it off in disgust before really registering them.)

I am staggered to hear of a possible remake of Escape From New York. How could they improve it? (And they would probably remove the magnificent movie theme soundttrack - written by Carpenter himself if I remember?)

Davros · 03/09/2015 23:06

The Women. The original is perfect

MsAmerica · 04/09/2015 20:33

I was just talking about this. I don't know about "the world" but it used to be agreed that the two worst movies were "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" and "Plan Nine from Outer Space."

Apart from that, the worst movies I can think of off-hand might be "Skatetown" and "Rabbit Test."

Jasonandyawegunorts · 05/09/2015 02:27

MsAmerica They aren't remakes.

SilverNightFairy · 05/09/2015 02:35

Halloween. What's his face should never ever ever fucked with a remake of this very fine example of American horror. FFS!

SenecaFalls · 05/09/2015 03:30

In the US, there was a 1987 made-for-TV remake of Roman Holiday. Big mistake.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 05/09/2015 03:39

Oh good, glad someone else has mentioned The Italian Job. The clue's in the name, film remake people, should have been set in ITALY.

I tend to avoid remakes, especially if I was a fan of the original - and would avoid the remake of Annie because I am so NOT a fan of the original, so don't want to see it at any price!

Still don't understand why they re-made the Fantastic Four so soon after the last version, and apparently the new one is shiteola (haven't seen it, don't plan to)

and someone's re-doing The Craft? Fuck that!

I also agree that JD's Charlie and the CHocolate Factory was a big mistake. BIG one.

Someone find some new storylines, stop re-doing badly in nearly all cases old classics!

Baconyum · 05/09/2015 04:29

I'm not anti all remakes and I loved the baz luhrman great Gatsby but

HELL NO

to remaking

The craft and...

Sacrilege

The Goonies!!!!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 05/09/2015 04:38

Re' the Karate Kid remake with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan - I really don't know why they didn't just call it Kung Fu Kid instead. Wrong country, wrong MA - just pointless!

roundtable · 05/09/2015 05:14

I quite like the new Annie too. Cameron Diaz doesn't play a good part though. I saw her on a chat show being interviewed about it and she looked really uncomfortable. I think she knows it.

They had to remake the fantastic four because the same actor played captain America and the flaming one. They're both part of the avengers assemble so they will probably be in a film at the same time. It's really flopped though, I've not seen it but I wonder if it's the script or the acting.

I haven't seen a lot of the remakes listed.

JAPAB · 06/09/2015 21:51

"wasn't the thing actually really a prequel?"

It was indeed. The 1982 classic has never been "remade". Actually I liked the modern versions of Dawn and Day Of The Dead, although the originals were better.

I've heard that they are remaking Old Boy. Can't imagine that will go well but then you never know. Although bet the American version does not have the octopus scene in it.

ipswichwitch · 06/09/2015 22:07

The Wicker Man (glad so many of you agree) - frankly Nicholas Cage and everyone else involved, should be burnt in a large wicker man for that feckin travesty.

John Carpenter films should be left well alone. Especially Big Trouble in Little China. I'm actually rather pissed off they're re-making any of the films in Trionics list. Bloody heathens, I'll boycot the lot. That'll learn em.

ipswichwitch · 06/09/2015 22:09

Also, they can't re-make Highlander. I mean, have they never even seen it?? Do they not know?? There can be only one!
