Not all pirated DVDs originate from organised crime sources.

Glassofwine · 24/11/2006 09:39

I'm totally with you, I used to work sort of in the film industry and would never buy a pirate film.

and they are rubbish why waste the experience of watching a brilliant dvd on our new and wonderful tv with a copy that is trashy quality

they seem the norm in hong kong and they have chinese subtitles on as well

sassy · 24/11/2006 09:40

I agree Cod.

While the multi million dollar film studios make enough profit yada yada.. I think counterfeiting (and supporting it by buying/watching the DVDs) is morally wrong.

TheHighwayCod · 24/11/2006 09:41

yes bit it hinkt he death penalty si the norm in HOng kong too

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 24/11/2006 09:41

i don't buy them but tbh, I couldn't really give a fig if others do. It's not something I can get worked up about

expatinscotland · 24/11/2006 09:41

and also, the quality of these counterfeits is shite.

TheHighwayCod · 24/11/2006 09:42

but you woudl NDp if one of yours sons was involoved in drug takin gfrom a dealer who also made money to buy drugs this way
tis not a vicitmless crime

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 24/11/2006 09:42

it's how we end up with them ds gets them and it is very annoying

NomDePlume · 24/11/2006 09:43

Maybe I would, but you could say that about lots of things.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/11/2006 09:43

is this aimed at me cod?!

we do have a few copies - not many. DH picked some up in Iraq when he was on tour, and his dad gave him a copy of Ice Age 2. Other than that I get them on Amazon or Play.com because they are cheap as chips!

TheHighwayCod · 24/11/2006 09:44

no i t wasnt jarm!!! hahaha youve fessed up

OP posts:
cupcakes · 24/11/2006 09:44

I was wondering about this just now on another thread.

katierocket · 24/11/2006 09:45

I agree - sends very bad message to children IMO.
jessicaandrebeccasmummy - I think it's a different thread that has made Cod start this.

expatinscotland · 24/11/2006 09:45

in addition to human trafficking and drug trafficking, terrorist organisations also trade in counterfeit - DVDs and goods like clothing and handbags - to fund their activities.

foxinsocks · 24/11/2006 09:46

oops

...sorry, didn't see this one till now

zippitippitoes · 24/11/2006 09:46

and there is no treatinvolved in going and seeing them either cos you've already seen the rubbish version

apart from the crime conmsequences

I used to ask ds if he wanted to see a new film and he would already have seen it atschool on a laptop

TheHighwayCod · 24/11/2006 09:46

and also it gets your kid known to the teacher as the one wiht ropey parents

OP posts:
Iklboo · 24/11/2006 09:48

My parents do this all the time. They offer tl lend them to us but we won't take them. Mainly cos the quality is sh!t, but I don't agree with pirate dvds anyway. We told them taht the copies won't play on our machine.
"Oh well, we'll buy you a better one for Xmas that will play them". No mum, it's because ours IS a good make dvd that they won't play.
It really annoys me that our local flea market on a Sunday is rows & rows of stalls selling counterfeit dvds, cds, pc programmes & games, cigarettes, tobacco etc and NOTHING is done about it - either by the market authority or the police (who are in a station about 200 yards away)

TheHighwayCod · 24/11/2006 09:48

your PARENTS????
they are criminals?
