9 year old 'chick-flick' movies for my DD's sleepover?

PavlovtheCat · 22/06/2015 23:06

My DD is about to turn 9. She is having a sleepover with 3 other female friends. We are doing nails, having pizza, and she wants to sit and watch 'romantic' films with her friends til the wee hours snuggled under duvets eating popcorn. (romantic is how she described it, I think she wants films about love and boys and best friends and probably pets. I am happy to skip over the love and boys bit, but open to ideas!

I have no idea what to get for them to watch, so suggestions are gratefully received.

A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff is very good for her age group

ALittleFaith · 22/06/2015 23:11

13 going on 30
Mean girls
Bring it on

FizzyPink · 22/06/2015 23:11

Bratz the movie, high school musical, Ella enchanted, princess diaries

NomiMalone · 22/06/2015 23:12

High School Musical?

meandjulio · 22/06/2015 23:12

The Slipper and the Rose? [old school]

YesThisIsMe · 22/06/2015 23:12

Enchanted is good - romantic but child-friendly without a hint of s-e-x
DD loved Labyrinth when I insisted at gunpoint that she watched it.

CocktailQueen · 22/06/2015 23:12

Princess diaries here! Or shrek.

YesThisIsMe · 22/06/2015 23:14

I think Mean Girls (though excellent) is just a bit much for 9 year olds.

YesThisIsMe · 22/06/2015 23:15

Bring It On also features the word "whore" in the first 60 seconds as I recall. Good movie but....

bikeandrun · 22/06/2015 23:16

Legally blonde

NomiMalone · 22/06/2015 23:16

Agree that Mean Girls is too old for 9 year olds.

As is Pitch Perfect which I can't wait to watch with DD when she's old enough.

abuhamzamouse · 22/06/2015 23:19

A little princess is a great film. Little women? Princess Bride?

When I was her age though, Star Wars was my favourite film!

Preminstreltension · 22/06/2015 23:24

Parent trap?

Preminstreltension · 22/06/2015 23:24

Mamma Mia

PollyCazaletWannabe · 22/06/2015 23:25

Agree with Enchanted. Also Ella: enchanted (not connected). Freaky Friday. Matilda maybe? A Cinderella Story.

tabulahrasa · 22/06/2015 23:25

I'd go with enchanted as well.

Ever After is good as well.

I was going to suggest warm bodies, but then I remembered that zombies maybe a bit much, lol

PollyCazaletWannabe · 22/06/2015 23:25

Ooh! Also, Aquamarine.

YesThisIsMe · 22/06/2015 23:26

Ooh yes, Princess Bride.

YesThisIsMe · 22/06/2015 23:27

Or Stardust, though perhaps a bit scary.

VenusRising · 22/06/2015 23:29

The princess bride - a swashbuckling story, with pirates, princes and true love.
True Grit for kick ass Mattie, sworn to avenge the murder of her father.
The Blind side, surprisingly loved by all.
Clueless, a modern Emma, with teen culture.
Kung fu panda 1 and 2 for kick ass tigress, and general family values.
Gladiator, for general kick ass ness, and amazing music.
Tomb raider 1 and 2 for kick ass Lara Croft - hilarious plots, and costumes.
Chalet girl for kick ass snowboarding.
Miss potter, for kick ass Beatrix potter, finding her own path through a Victorianly regimented life.
Star Wars, is very popular too, and
The Kings speech, for overcoming stammers etc.

And all the Jane Austens: pride and prejudice, sense and sensibility, emma, northanger abbey: BBC and also the films.

All loved by my 11 yo did and her pals. Tbh most do martial arts more than manicures, but still, you won't be bored by the films!

Athenaviolet · 22/06/2015 23:29

If she's a young 9 then-

The wolves of willoughby chase
Little women
Labyrinth
Return to oz
Legally blonde
The railway children
Supergirl

If she's a bit more of a streetwise 9 then

Mean girls
Bring it on
Grease
Uncle buck
Drop dead gorgeous
My girl & my girl 2
Don't tell mom the babysitters dead
Pretty in pink

VenusRising · 22/06/2015 23:31

Oh yes, Stardust is very popular here too!
Mamma Mia too, but bring the hankies (for yourself)

enderwoman · 22/06/2015 23:31

New York Minute
The Lizzie Maguire Movie

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/06/2015 23:34

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants.
