So when we were teenagers and watched this, we all preferred non-threatening cutie Duckie over drippy creep Blaine.. yes? But now we're in the full flower of mature womanhood... I think we're all agreed that we'd rip James Spader's white chinos off with our teeth, no questionGrin

Andrew Mccarthy has a special place in my heart I've loved him forever. I cannot stand Duckie especially in the cringe fest that is 2 and a half men!! James Spader is ok.

SoleSource · 01/03/2015 13:36

Never watched as it looked shyte to me, Dirty Dancing shyte.

Brandysnapper · 01/03/2015 13:37

Nope, it's always been Andrew for me.

Faez · 01/03/2015 13:37

Yep that's why they had to refilm the ending.

emkana · 01/03/2015 13:38

Why did they refilm the ending?

Faez · 01/03/2015 13:38

Oh but I mean I've always preferred Andrew. My first post doesn't really make sense :/

Faez · 01/03/2015 13:39

She ended up with Duckie and people complained so they filmed another ending. Andrew had already shaved his head for another role so had to wear a wig.

rambunctious · 01/03/2015 13:41

Watching it as an adult makes me realise what a wet fish Blane (Andrew McCarthy) is. Andie & Duckie are far better suited to each other. but god, James Spader is SO HOT in the film

Faez · 01/03/2015 13:43

Hot in a disturbing kind of way...

DigApony · 01/03/2015 13:43

Wish they had kept the original ending I loved duckie

Trinpy · 01/03/2015 13:45

The dress she wears is just awful. You think it's going to be something really amazing because they have the long montage of her designing it etc then she turns up in an ugly pink sack Sad.

RoseTheHat · 01/03/2015 13:48

No way Faez! Now I need to watch afain and look out for the wig!! I always thoyght she should have ended up with Duckie - Blaine seemed such a drip; he's so cringe in the record shop when he doesn't know any cool bands Shock I guess he's the rich guy from the right side of the tracks... so that's the appeal for Andi

Andrew McCarthy was better in St Elmos Fire. I could never get past the weird watery bulgy eyed thing he did to convey strong emotion.

Btw. Rob Lowe in St Elmos Fire.

rambunctious · 01/03/2015 13:54

Yes yes trinpy, what a let down the dress was!

RoseTheHat · 01/03/2015 13:56

YES Pagwatch, he looks like a squeezed hamster.

YY Rob Lowe so hot.

My real fav though, at the time, was John Cusak (sp?) in Say Anything....he was soooo sweet to her.. swoooon

Never liked Duckie, quite liked Andrew McCarthy - always absolutely LOVED James Spader.

thoth · 01/03/2015 14:08

er- no! it's always been about Andrew McCarthy for me!
Spader is horrible, particularly in PiP.

James Spader played Evil Prepster with aplomb.

He doesn't look like that any more.................

squoosh · 01/03/2015 14:14

Harry Dean Stanton breaks my heart a little.

Lardylassnomore · 01/03/2015 14:15

JS is the baddie in the new Avengers!!

I was too young to see PinP when it came out but got too it about 6 years later as a mid teen. I loved Blaine and Duckie, hated Steff, but agree JS did it very well (he cornered 'slimy git' roles cf PinP, Mannequin, Baby Boom). I loved so many of John Hughes' films. Still love AM and adore his delivery of the prom speech!

Preferred Iona's dress in its original form (but it do tend to love that style!!)
