WTF was that about? It's taken me weeks to watch it. It was up for Oscars as well.

OP posts:
Sidge · 05/01/2015 09:41

Mamma Mia.

I love Abba, but I hated this film. I wanted to chew my own ears off.

I also think Captain Corelli's Mandarin was absolute shite, but then I can't bear Nicolas Cage.

Sidge · 05/01/2015 09:43

Mandolin not mandarin! Grin

Bloody autocorrect. Mind you maybe a mandarin would have been a better actor than Mr Cage.

hiccupgirl · 05/01/2015 10:06

Mamma Mia - I will never get those hours of my life back. Awful singing and crap acting, together with Julie Walters basically just playing herself.

Last of the Mohicans and the Columbus epic that was out at the same time...so boring and way too long.

The Time Travellers Wife....too long and crap story though better than the book which was so boring I gave up.

emotionsecho · 05/01/2015 11:06

CarbonRod is judging all of us fanjo and who gives a damnGrin

Legionofboom · 05/01/2015 11:12

I agree with Titanic and Mamma Mia.

Worst film ever was A Fish Called Wanda.

Skyfall was also absolutely terrible.

I try to avoid movies that people rave about. They never seem to live up to the hype.

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2015 11:48

I fell asleep in the cinema watching last of the mochicans Blush I find Daniel day lewis films pretentious twaddle. Oh The Departed was a great film till they ending it was such a let down

BearFeet · 05/01/2015 11:53

Loved Lost in Translation
Hated Brokeback Mountain

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 05/01/2015 11:59

So glad so many others hated Lost in Translation. People (IRL and everything) ranted on about how brilliant it was so I gave in and went and it was UTTER CRAP. I can't imagine what anyone saw in it.

I was also baffled by the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (IIRC) but that was on Lovefilm so I just gave up - maybe it made sense by the end.

The one I really hated was Goodfellas. Probably not a bad film but I don't much care for Joe Pesci anyway, and despite my personal overuse of the F-word, its presence in every single sentence uttered in that film (in my recollection) drove me barmy. Should have walked out really.

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2015 12:04

Home Alone is such an overated film I know its meant to be daft but I hate it and those parents left him twice

Vida · 05/01/2015 12:06

Most recently: Birdman. Pretentious, luvvie crap. Oscars predicted, however.

Last year at this time: American Hustle. I like all the actors in it. Plot sounded good. But complete and utter rubbish.

cruikshank · 05/01/2015 12:14

Oh, I loved Eternal Sunshine. The trick is to keep track of her hair colour.

Loved Brokeback Mountain as well.

Didn't get what all the fuss about Lost in Translation was about. It was an okay film, but that was it. Didn't speak any profound truths to me or whatever. No idea why everyone raved about it.

I have got to demur about Goodfellas though. That is a cracking film. How can anybody not be affected by the Joe Pesci arc? It's almost fucking Shakespearean. Also, there is the 'Hey, fuck him. Fuck him in the ear. What are you talking about? Fuck him in the other ear, that son of a bitch'. Makes me want to be a mafia stooge just so that I can use that line.

MindReader · 05/01/2015 12:21

In no particular order:

12 Years A Slave
American Beauty
Brokeback Mountain
Gravity
Horse Whisperer
One called: Ice Storm/Vanilla Storm - I don't know - about 10 years ago.
Was boring rubbish.

Most films with Nicole Kidman or Tom Cruise, tbh.

I don't like overlong films which set out to manipulate me in a very obvious way.

KellyElly · 05/01/2015 12:25

Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy

CarbeDiem · 05/01/2015 14:09

How could I forget the rubbish that was Blair Witch..... What a crock of shite.
I hate all things 'real or cam' now. As soon as a movie starts with someone filming/holding a cam - My interest is pretty much gone. That said Paranormal activity 1 wasn't too bad, I wouldn't watch it again though or any following it.

I've never watched BBM and after reading some of your opinions about it I don't think I'll ever bother :)

I also think those that watch 50 shades of shite will be back here reporting on it's crapness. I got half way through the first book and lost the will to live, I can only imagine, because I certainly won't be watching, what the film will be like.

Micah · 05/01/2015 14:12

Oh yes, the usual suspects.

Took me three goes, spotted the ending a mile off, and was just rubbish

redexpat · 05/01/2015 14:19

No one has said mine yet! Its another with scarlett johanson...

Match point. It just dragged and is the only film ive ever walked out of.

mewkins · 05/01/2015 14:22

Black Swan. We walked out after a fit of the giggles. Oscar winning? Pah!

mewkins · 05/01/2015 14:31

Oh yes and Moulin Rouge. It made me feel queasy.

jules1308 · 05/01/2015 14:49

Mamma Mia - the endless bloody shrieking! Only made it through the first 10 minutes.
Another vote for American Hustle - wearing 70s clothes and mumbling does not make you instantly 'cool'. What was the fuss about??

Have to say though, I do love lots of the fils mentioned here - Lost in Translation, Moulin Rouge, Eternal Sunshine, Royal Tennebaums, to name just a few Smile

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2015 15:02

Oh gawd black swan far to much fiddiling with herself and everytime Mila Kunis spoke I thought its meg griffin

WetAugust · 05/01/2015 15:03

Fell asleep in the cinema during Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Dire!

Mr Turner - odd film that keep me interested for a couple if hours but as I left the cinema it occurred to me that nothing happened in the film.

hellsbellsmelons · 05/01/2015 15:11

Oh Frozen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is fantastic.
Try it again.

I really liked a lot of the films mentioned here as well!
But..... totally agree with American Hustle.
How I lasted until the end is beyond me.
Our own New Tricks programme is far better than that.
I was hoping with Bradley in it, it would be bearable. But he looks weird in that wig. Dire!

rookiemere · 05/01/2015 15:12

So many of my least favourite films here:

  • Lost in Translation - awful, horrible, tedious film
  • War Horse - or Bore Horse as we renamed it
  • Great gatsby - could only bear to watch 10 mins of it
  • Brokeback Mountain - as above

some of the films above I didn't actually think were piles of horse manure, but nor did I think they were worth the critical acclaim:-

  • American Hustle - does anyone remember the tv series Hustle, the scam in AH would have been rejected as too contrived for that ( although I think it was true)
  • Black Swan - agree with those above, pretentious pile of twaddle
  • Silver Linings - again ok, but not Oscar winning IMHO also deeply dodgy plot, two people with MH problems (one of which has a non contact order for stalking his ex wife I believe) suddenly become cured through Lurve and the redeeming power of dance
  • Australia - nice scenery, but the main attraction was seeing if Nicole Kidman could actually manage to contort her face into any emotion at all, given the vast amount of Botox that seemed to be squeezed into her forehead, the answer after 2.5 hrs was none.
slug · 05/01/2015 15:38

Eyes fast asleep Wide shut

The Blair Witch Project. Really? It was so scary people fainted????!!! Are you sure they weren't just asleep?

The Usual Suspects. DH loves it. I've tried 5 times to watch it and fallen asleep every time. It's my go to insomnia cure.

I learned long ago to avoid anything my brother, the film school graduate, recommends. It's bound to be pretentious twaddle.

rookiemere · 05/01/2015 15:42

Also any film that critics like which is about Hollywood or the world of film making. We had the choice the other night of going to the Bird Man or for a meal out, despite the glowing reviews , I plumped for the meal out.
