When I’ve finished the current blanket I’m going to have a go at the Toft kit that’s been sitting in my yarn chest for the past 3 years.

I'm reading a novel set in Norway. It's called Bell in the Lake by Lars Mytting. Early days but I'm enjoying it. Could be fun to read it on Norway.

I'm a wool warehouse fan too. I used to default to Style craft Special DK thanks to Wooly Hugs and St Lucy of the Attic, but I've moved on to Yarnaholics for blankets recently. Nicer to work with.

I've got increasingly picky over the years, to the point where I'd rather make fewer things but in nicer yarns.

I'm about to start yarn- and pattern-hunting for a jumper for a friend's little DS. Tractors? Dinosaurs? Or something restrained and stylish with a nice stranded yoke?

Probably dinosaurs.

Can't go wrong with dinosaurs.

So the next question is, do I do one big dinosaur on the front, or a parade of little ones all the way round the bottom?

One big dinosaur would mean dusting off my intarsia skills, which were never great and which I haven't used in a very long time. But the little dinosaur patterns I've found so far all look a bit naff.

Little dinosaurs, I think, if you can find a less naff pattern. I have a couple of dinosaur jumpers! One has a big sauropod which wraps around to my back, and the other has dinosaurs Fair Isle style.

I was planning to see my friend in a place near London today. We have barely spoken in three months and then on Saturday I messaged to ask if we could catch up, and she said today. And now at 6am she texted to say she has very bad gastroenteritis. 😢

I visited Ireland only for the first time a few years ago, and you can practically see it from my house

No reading suggestions from me alas - I always bring a book of poetry with me, which has the advantage of being [usually] a Slim Volume of concentrated reading - you can read it over and over and get more and more out of it.

Not wool either - no yarn suggestions of any kind🙁

The Gosie episodes are getting more and more tense - is somebody going to be caught doing something bad? do the gerbils need 'an extraction plan' or can they just run away? has Fenella got sharp talons? will Errol show up, tower over Fenella threateningly and say 'no, these are talons...' while the gerbils make their escape?

It's been tough, hasn't it? I know the extreme heat has been a big problem for some Stockingers and their nearest and dearest for health reasons, but look, you were all strong enough to get through it, and now you can look forward to a nice cool Autumn and fog and floods and then ice and sner on the rerds

BTW apropos of nothing, I finally watched the new movie Weapons last night.

Unless you love creepy and gory, gross horror (I love creepy, but not gross), with ridiculous, predictable slapstick, and characters that are never fully-developed, all wrapped up in a plotline that starts nowhere and goes nowhere, I'd give it a miss.

Think subpar Signs (and that's saying something) combined with Get Out and Train to Busan (Korean zombie movie), and that's probably the long and short of it.

The cinematography was very good, I'll give it that.

So disappointing, and overhyped.

Yarnsmiths do nice yarns, @EdithStourton, and so do Paintbox - soft cotton yarns in beautiful colours. The baby dresses I knitted were Yarnsmiths sock yarns, and that is lovely to work with.

I think I fancy a change from the Plantagenets & Tudors, although I do want to get hold of The Cardinal & In the Shadow of Queens, Angle.

I hate slapstick so I’ll definitely give Weapons a miss.
