Did Harris lose because she was a woman?

Apparently even after calling Puerto Rico a floating island of trash, many immigrants still voted for Trump. It's been argued that some sectors of society simply won't vote for a woman.

Even on here, I saw a post asking if a woman would be respected by world leaders.

No. She was boring, condescending and unpopular. Some people would have seen her sex as a negative but many more as a positive.

LorettyTen · 06/11/2024 16:33

I think the fact that she can't answer a question has more to do with it.

You think Trump is more articulate?

@CliantheLang I’m not convinced about the extent to which he loves his own country. I think he is more devoted to his own enrichment.

Where did I say that?

Alwaystired94 · 06/11/2024 16:41

I'd say its a large part of it.

the US has a very large amount of radical evangelicals and garden variety misogynists. Add in the amount of people who are also racist and yeah you've got a perfect storm sadly.

By that you mean neither are articulate?

Is it impossible that the result has nothing to do with the VP's sex or ethnicity and is explained by voters' key issue of financial well-being and their view about which candidate would enable them to feel better off?

Although their economy is booming, I understand a majority of adults feel worse off as wealth and the benefits of economic growth are unevenly distributed and inflation has eroded purchasing power when wages have, on average, not kept pace with costs.

The VP is, in effect, the incumbent for the purposes of the economy. Trump's first term led, I understand, to more people feeling better off. Most economists are unconvinced that Trump's statements about tariffs will lead to economic growth and unfunded tax cuts will lead to an increased deficit and debt which will eventually bite but electorates are not know for following the advice of economists when tax cuts are waved at them.

There are lots of tactical mistakes the VP made around the selection of her running mate and constantly talking about Trump rather than talking to his potential voters about what positive reasons there are for voting for her instead of Trump.

K.H was awful. Simply terrible.
Rude, dismissive of anyone who isn't part of "the elite" she's also thick as a drystone wall.

Michelle Obama would have won.

It's also not the point that she was a woman or not.
Really, it was J. Biden who lost the election because he was senile, stubborn and hopeless. The Democrats couldn't get rid of him on enough time to find a proper candidate!!!

The Democrats fucked up. Massively. It was little to do with K.H to be honest. She's glamorous and pretty for a politician, but that's not enough to become president. You need to be able to motivate people.

augustusglupe · 06/11/2024 16:49

No.
Wheeling out Jlo and Oprah etc wasn’t the best move. Multi millionaires who haven’t got a clue how real people are struggling or even act like they care.
Surely they didn’t think that would help?! I mean people love to be belittled and patronised 🙄
I absolutely agree that Michelle Obama would’ve won.

MichaelandKirk · 06/11/2024 16:50

I honestly think people who are questionining it need to face up to the fact that she lost because she couldnt convince the electorate that she was capable of doing the job. Biden was a white man - would the excuse be he lost because he was too old?

I must admit I thought she might squeak through. I think what happened is the equiviliant of the 'shy Tories'.

The Democrats need to look very carefully at themselves. They covered up for Biden massively and he was made to look very foolish. His wife kept blaming others for not looking after him and apparently she tried to hunt down the person who had left a sandbag for him to trip up on.

The immigrants voting for Trump is obvious. They have come in legally and Harris didnt even visit the border even though she was in charge of Immgration. Says it all really....

I didn't mention whether or not I think Trump is articulate. If you read again what I said, I meant that Harris might have won if she'd been able to answer questions properly instead of waffling. It might have given her an advantage. That's just my opinion. Do you understand now?

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 06/11/2024 16:52

AppropriateAdult · 06/11/2024 15:54

Whether Harris was 'inspiring' or not is incidental. She lost because 70 million American adults think that Trump is an appropriate person to lead the country. Sure, maybe another Democrat might have eked out a marginal win, but that's not really the point. In any other Western democracy Trump would be unelectable, a joke candidate. What the fuck has happened that 50% of American adults are either completely morally bankrupt, or just incredibly uneducated? That's what needs addressing.

This cannot be repeated enough. This is literally all there is to it.

Not really because Trump won and he spouts absolute gibberish. No one in their right mind would describe him as articulate, yet he won. Ergo 'waffling' doesn't seem to cost votes.

Well it cost Harris votes.

no forreignors and anyone who is different is bad. Like a certain someone else in Germany once said

Isn't his wife a forreignor? I'm no Trump supporter but the Nazi comparison is just lazy.

That doesn't make sense. Women are often described as 'waffling', it's a way of dismissing them.

Plenty of out-of-touch billionaires endorsed Trump, including Elon Musk.

chumpt · 06/11/2024 16:22

that's a lazy and unhelpful conclusion, that she lost due to her gender.

Its extremely accurate.

Why in your opinion has the USA never had a single female president, then

But the nazis were exactly the same.

I remember one lead nazi imposed rules on Jewish people, and he said that all Jewish people were bad.

Then he had an affair with a Jewish woman.

"These people are bad until I want to have sex with one, then they are ok"

She's definitely not thick. She has am impressive amount of academic qualifications.
