Did Harris lose because she was a woman?

Apparently even after calling Puerto Rico a floating island of trash, many immigrants still voted for Trump. It's been argued that some sectors of society simply won't vote for a woman.

Even on here, I saw a post asking if a woman would be respected by world leaders.

She lost because she was a black and Asian mixed race woman. People are racist. People like to put people in boxes. Kamala didn't fit into a box.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 06/11/2024 17:55

I think it's very likely she got less votes because she was a woman, the US is still a pretty male dominated society. It was a mistake they didn't put up a man against Trump, he used her sex against her.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/11/2024 18:01

I expect it was a range of reasons but it's gutting that a man who likes to "grab 'em by the pissy", and is a racist and convicted criminal, is apparently worthy of more votes. People are very weird and they believe all kinds of shit, clearly. Like, that he's on their side. As if. He cares for nobody.

Exactly! Remember when everyone was convinced that Hitler cared about making Germany great again. And cared about them.

He only cared about himself and his own power.

It should’ve been an easy win for the Democrats. I feel that they’ve royally fucked up and I’m angry with the party.

Salty. The United Kingdom, a country in terminal decline, has no right to call America backwards. America is one of the few actually productive Western countries. What are you doing? Hosing billionaires just to fund the NHS for a couple more weeks? Driving farmers to suicide?

I never mentioned the Uk. The post was about America and Trump. I don’t think it’s very productive to allow men to marry children, to continue to allow any random person to walk around with a gun, in spite of all the shootings. You can’t deny how backward and uneducated many Americans are. Why else did Trump win. How else did so many Americans vote for him. The country is doomed.

No, she lost because she shouldn't have been in the race in the 1st place. Weak on policy.lied about Bidens' capacity until it suited her to turn tail, weak on policy & the administration she's been part of for the last 4 years has been an absolute shit show.

Mainly this.

I think you have to look back at the arrogance of the party in letting Biden run for a second term when it was clear that he couldn't even be effective in the end of his own term. There was so much lying involved. Then whoosh bang, far too late they realise that they can't lie to the electorate any more that Biden is in fact capable of office currently, let alone in the future.

So in steps the VP to try and step up to the plate, but far too late in the day and she wasn't effective in getting policy across.

But at the same time Trump recognised that the economy was the key driving message here and he drove home that he was going to change the USA for the better, stem the tide of inflation, immigration, protect borders, impose tariffs etc etc. He sold those struggling the dream that he's going to make it all better.
(Doesn't actually matter that some of his policies will actually fuel inflation as that wasn't what he was selling.)

He sold a better future. She didn't and was also tainted with the past.

It's just a sad way that the American political system works that to field candidates costs significant money and requires heavy weight backers. How America ended up with the initial binary choice of Biden or Trump in the first place is the sad reflection on how their system works. Then the binary choice of Harris or Trump.

AppropriateAdult · 06/11/2024 18:31

But @BruFord, a vote for a candidate is, to some extent at least, a statement of support for the values they espouse. It's not a morally neutral act. Trump is despicable, and he's brazen about it. What has happened to society, that it has produced so many people that think this is ok?

@AppropriateAdult Something has definitely gone wrong in current American politics.

Think of how Keir Starmer addressed Rishi Sunak at his final PMQ last week. They’re politically opp

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/11/2024 18:50

He's also saying re will cut climate change regulation, which is tragic for so many. .

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 06/11/2024 19:01

Half the problem is this.

The losing candidates voters insist on telling the winning voters, that they voted incorrectly, and then proceed to lecture them.

Right there, are the seeds for their next election loss.

Stop fucking talking down to people - respect their decision to exercise their vote as they wish.

That would be a good start.

AyrshireTryer · 06/11/2024 19:08

of course

LassoOfTruth · 06/11/2024 19:12

Maybe. But also divisive woke rhetoric that normal people don’t relate to. Add to that the nonsensical babbling and constant fake chortling, zero useful policies, talking in fake accents depending on her audience, lying about her family… the Democrats really shot themselves in the foot. I have no love for Trump but I’m relieved because she seemed such a fraud. Better the devil you know I guess. And Trump has assembled a very interesting and accomplished team around him.

I rather suspect Obama royally screwed up, by keeping Biden in situ for so long.

Harris was hamstrung from the off.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 06/11/2024 19:18

70 odd million people voted for Trump. It would be far too simplistic to say that many people voted for him only because Harris is a woman. It probably factored for some but I am sure there are a myriad of reasons people voted the way they did that can’t be boiled down to one single thing.

Without asking them all why they voted the way they did, and them telling the truth, no one will ever know.

I voted for him. I really don’t care what you think about it. I think crime needs to be harshly punished, I am tired of seeing criminals with a rap sheet pages long killing people when they should have been jailed long ago. I want illegal immigrants deported and TPS status revoked. Immigration should be very limited to highly productive foreigners and sharply limited.

Ovendrone · 06/11/2024 19:26

I don't think it was because she was a woman so much as because of Trump's anti-feminist agenda.

He "spoke" to all the not terribly bright disenfranchised men who have come to believe that all their problems are because women have "turned".

Who? Everything I've read suggests the complete opposite regarding his team.

DonaldJohnTrump · 06/11/2024 19:32

Of course she didn't lose cos she's woman. It was just that the best man won. Bigly Time!

lemonstolemonade · 06/11/2024 19:34

I wouldn't have voted for Trump.

But if you can find something Kamala Harris about about the economy that wasn't word salad or impossibly vague, then you are doing very well. Same for immigration. Both bigger issues than abortion.

LassoOfTruth · 06/11/2024 19:35

@EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime that too! But she doesn’t seem very … competent or serious either. And the Walz guy makes my skin crawl. Team Trump actually looks good beside them and that’s wild but there it is. I would really love to get behind a female candidate but she wasn’t the one and I don’t think anyone should vote for someone just because they are female or whatever. It’s like voting for someone because they’re tall or because you like their hairstyle.

Pumpkinspawn · 06/11/2024 13:50

Firstly Trump did not say that, a comedian at his rally did. Joe Biden did in fact call Trump supporters rubbish.

I think Kamala lost as her policies are simply too woke for what Americans want for their country. She firmly supports transgenderism & males infiltrating female sports teams, private spaces, toilets & prisons. She is no friend to biological females.
Also supports puberty blockers & gender reaffiming surgeries for children.

She also did nothing to distance herself from an unpopular Biden administration, refused to do long interviews with journalists, covered up Biden's cognitive decline, snubbed the moderate governor of the critical swing state of Pennsylvania as her VP pick, likely because he's Jewish, picked a VP from a state that she was going to win anyway, and refused to go on the most popular podcast in the country days before the election. I'm sure some people didn't vote for her because she's a woman and some people did vote for her because she's a woman.

It was not a brilliant campaign. Biden also gets a lot of the blame for breaking his promise not to run again and having to be forced out at the last minute.

LuluBlakey1 · 06/11/2024 19:49

I'm sure - unless he is ill and feels unable to have another go in 4 years- that Trump will try to change the rules so that 2 terms is no longer the limit.

Or we'll see one of his spawn being bigged up throughout the 4 years to stand next.

Indeed. It’s far more down to these factors rather than she’s a woman.
