What's your title?

I'm married.
I go by the title of Miss at work (primary teacher) and Ms everywhere else.
Hate it when people refer to me as Mrs S.
Nope - that's my mum!!!

Ms. Cos it's none of their bloody business. Took me a while to get used to it, but I hate either of the other options now.

PermanentTemporary · 03/02/2024 22:09

Ms, though titles being used less.

Considering Mx but still a bit out there for me.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 03/02/2024 22:12

Don't use one.

I don't buy anything online if there is a drop down box without the option for a blank.

Very occasionally my work takes me into a secondary school. The headmistress gets all twitchy when I ask the pupils to call me by my first name.

Banks are a bit variable. My regular one is okay about no title. When I had a large inheritance and needed to park a 6 figure sum another bank couldn't cope with my lack of title. So I moved on.

I hate Ms with a passion.

LakeFlyPie · 03/02/2024 22:14

Always been Ms. Have felt strongly about this since growing up in 80s. Remember as a very young child being perplexed / annoyed that men were simply Mr but women had a string of titles to identify their marital status. Still feel the same!

TooMinty · 03/02/2024 22:15

Don't often use one but if I do, it's Ms. I kept my own surname on marriage so wouldn't ever use Mrs, especially not Mrs His Initial His Surname.

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 22:15

@PermanentTemporary I'm a primary teacher so mine is used frequently.
The children still struggle to comprehend that I'm a married Miss!!

Ms. If anyone gets arsy about that/calls me Mrs instead they're told it's Dr.

Ewoklady · 03/02/2024 22:18

We use Ms at work for all female staff
I would prefer to use Mrs to be honest. I am married and that’s my status.

RedVanYellowVan · 03/02/2024 22:19

DH has a very feminist friend who quite correctly uses Prof. The assumption that Prof is automatically a male title is a huge insult to her.

Writerscompanion · 03/02/2024 22:22

I'm a Professor but would only ever use it at work as it's a job title. I do use Dr for forms etc as my title did formally change when I got my PhD and I prefer it for feminist reasons, I hated the Miss/Mrs question and have never been a Mrs. But in most situations I prefer to be called my first name.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/02/2024 22:22

I try and avoid having to have a title, and use Dr (legitimately) if I have to.

IlonaRN · 03/02/2024 22:23

Dr
(not medical)

leatherchapss · 03/02/2024 22:23

Always been a Ms

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 22:25

@Ewoklady Why is Mrs your status because you're married?! I'm married and most definitely not a Mrs!

OP posts:
tunainatin · 03/02/2024 22:27

Dr unless it's a situation where anyone might mistake me for a medical doctor.

mumyes · 03/02/2024 22:27

Ms or Mx

I hate having to select a title

ClematisRock · 03/02/2024 22:28

I use Mrs.

I refuse to use Ms as it means fuck all and is a fatuous construct.

I'd rather titles didn't exist at all.

However , due to many forms and websites insisting on titles I use Mrs.

I loathe using my maiden name as it needs to be spelled, every single time ( gets really irritating after 60 years!)

My husband's surname was a way to escape it . It only has one syllable.
Yet here I am still having to spell my single syllable name every single time!!!

It's bollox but I love being Mrs single syllable.
Much better than Ms ' can you repeat that.. sorry I got lost after the 'e' .. sorry , you said wsj.. can you start again please'

FunnysInLaJardin · 03/02/2024 22:29

Mrs if I have to, otherwise just my name

Spendonsend · 03/02/2024 22:29

Mrs. I work in a school so its used a lot.

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 22:29

@ClematisRock So if Ms "means fuck all", what does Mrs mean?!!

OP posts:
HippeePrincess · 03/02/2024 22:30

If I have to Ms, usually just first name last name.

AlisonDonut · 03/02/2024 22:31

Since moving to France, I've been Madame.

Adult, human, females are Madame here whether you are married or not.

Much simpler.

Moveoverdarlin · 03/02/2024 22:34

Was happy being a Miss or Ms before I was married. Now I’m married I’m a Mrs. Had no idea people got so het up about it.

Refusing to buy something online if they make you put in a title in a drop down menu? Not using a bank because they insist on a title?? Not sure what point you’re trying to prove there. Like the website or bank will give a flying fuck, like they will ever know your reason for not progressing with a transaction.

AcridAndStanLee · 03/02/2024 22:38

I was always told not to use Ms as it's women trying to be difficult or that can't find a husband. So obviously I use Ms. Grin

I am also not married and felt perturbed and embarrassed that people would know this if I used miss but with age comes the glory of not giving a fuck

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 22:39

@Moveoverdarlin As feminists we get "het up about it" because it's a patriarchal construct. One title for men regardless of marital status. Why should it not be the same for women?
And no, nobody automatically becomes a "Mrs" upon marriage either! I'm a (married) Miss My Family Name 👍
