I'm married.
I go by the title of Miss at work (primary teacher) and Ms everywhere else.
Hate it when people refer to me as Mrs S.
Nope - that's my mum!!!

@LorlieS such a good question.

So the school receptionist doesn’t think I’m a hussy?!

Mainly I think it’s because, although I did officially change my surname when I got married, I actually still use my “real”/ maiden name for everything other than school. I really wish I hadn’t changed my name - I did it in a fit of romance, and didn’t realise how much it would continue to bug me 15 years on.

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 23:19

@AgateQ I do neither! Why does anybody need to know I'm married unless I wish to tell them?
Do you find it equally strange if a man (known as Mr regardless of marital status) doesn't a wedding ring?

I do find it strange if someone is married, bought wedding jewellery and then decides not to wear it, regardless of sex.

tiggergoesbounce · 03/02/2024 23:23

I choose Mrs as that's the choice im happy with.

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 23:24

@ApoodlecalledPenny But I meant about the Mrs part more specifically?

OP posts:
GLC789 · 03/02/2024 23:24

Mrs since marriage and totes happy with it.

Terfosaurus · 03/02/2024 23:25

I'm Miss.

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 23:25

@AgateQ We didn't buy wedding jewellery?

OP posts:
Elspyth · 03/02/2024 23:25

Dr otherwise Ms
I LOVE having a gender neutral title

@AgateQ We didn't buy wedding jewellery?

How coincidental that should be the case.

JamMakingWannaBe · 03/02/2024 23:27

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 23:00

@JamMakingWannaBe Are you a fellow married Miss? I don't know of any others IRL 😀

No, I'm afraid not but that's an interesting question. My parents are very old school so if I had got married, to them I would be Mrs Andrew Richardson. Bleugh.

My cousin is a married Miss, but as many PP she is a teacher so keep her pre- marriage professional name (now actually a PhD Dr).

BeckyWithTheGoodBear · 03/02/2024 23:28

I'm Ms, married but kept my name.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/02/2024 23:29

I find it strange that anyone would have any opinion whatever on what I might choose to have on my fingers.Confused

GLC789 · 03/02/2024 23:30

In terms of rings. I wear mine most of the time but I love jewellery anyway, especially my wedding ring as it's engraved with something very special to be him and I on the inside 😍😍😍. Hubby wears his when not working. His job requires utter muck and filth, so I banned him from wearing it to work 😂👀.

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 23:32

@AgateQWell not really... didn't buy any as no intentions of wearing!
We do have matching tattoos on our lower arms though; mine says "I ❤️ my husband".and his says "I ❤️ my wife."
Just so people don't go thinking we're single really.

DaftyLass · 03/02/2024 23:32

I am a disgrace to feminists everywhere, I am Mrs His Surname, wearing a wedding ring and he even asked permission for my hand.
There was a horse and carriage and everything!

Dacadactyl · 03/02/2024 23:32

Mrs, because I'm married and it made sense to me to change it.

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 23:34

@JamMakingWannaBe My mother is horrified I'm not a Mrs! I'm 43 and couldn't care less!

OP posts:
nocoolnamesleft · 03/02/2024 23:34

All the people saying it made sense to change to Mrs as they are married: did your husband also change his title? Because surely it would make equal sense as he is equally married?

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 23:37

@nocoolnamesleft Excellent point.

OP posts:
Dacadactyl · 03/02/2024 23:37

@nocoolnamesleft no he didn't change his title/surname or anything. It's not traditional for men to do that and I've no problem with the traditional way.

Ladyof2022 · 03/02/2024 23:38

Miss. Because I am proud of what I have achieved without a man. I used to be Ms but that led people to think I was divorced.

LorlieS · 03/02/2024 23:39

@Dacadactyl Any idea why the difference here for men and women?

Ms. If anyone gets arsy about that/calls me Mrs instead they're told it's Dr.

Me too.

Changingmynameyetagain · 03/02/2024 23:39

I go by Mrs but day to day I’m rarely called anything other than my first name.
It’s only really the kids school that use Mrs or I get called xxx’s mum.
DH and I got married a million years ago, if I got married again tomorrow I’d probably have keep my maiden name, although I went from an Irish name to a Scottish name and they aren’t too dissimilar.
